About the opportunity

This is a temporary part time Duty Supervisor position in the Central Specimen Reception department of NSW Health Pathology. We are based at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick. We’re looking for a proactive leader to oversee our Specimen Reception area, ensuring it operates efficiently, cost‑effectively, and in line with laboratory best practice to achieve optimal turnaround times. This role operates on a 7-day rotating roster, with shift start times ranging between 6:00am and 2:30pm. The roster includes weekends and public holidays on a rotational basis, and may also require occasional overnight shifts.

What you'll be doing

Ensuring the Specimen Reception area is run efficiently, cost-effectively and meets laboratory best practice in ensuring optimum turn-around-times for results.

Responsible for the supervision of staff within the Section and assigning day-to-day activities to the team.

Demonstrated experience in a Pathology Specimen Reception area with a sound understanding of all procedures.

Demonstrated strong leadership skills with the capacity to lead, motivate and manage conflict whilst contributing to building a team focused on providing high quality customer service.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to consult, negotiate and liaise effectively with a diverse range of people

Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and meet set deadlines whilst ensuring the laboratory meets best practice.

Experience working within an environment requiring sensitivity and consideration in relation to confidentiality and privacy.

Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.

Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotating shift roster, including weekends, public holidays, and night shifts
