Details: Roads ACT within the City and Environment Directorate (CED) is seeking motivated and safety-focused individuals to join the Works team as Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) Officers.
The Works business unit delivers predominantly in-house services including 24/7 incident response, street sweeping, line marking and signage, roadside furniture maintenance, road grading, and small to medium road maintenance services including asphalt works.
As a TTM Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of these services by ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient traffic control arrangements at worksites. You will contribute directly to maintaining the ACT’s road network while safeguarding workers, road users, and the wider community. We’re looking for reliable and adaptable team players who are safety-focused and committed to delivering quality outcomes for the Canberra community. Working across multiple sites, you will implement temporary traffic management solutions that maximise safety and minimise disruption to road users.
As part of the Works team, you will participate in a range of road and path maintenance activities. The role may rotate across different crews and undertake related duties based on operational requirements, providing opportunities to build new skills and broaden your experience.
Key Responsibilities

Implement and manage traffic control in accordance with approved Traffic Guidance Schemes and work programs

Undertake temporary traffic management (TTM) activities to support road maintenance works, including asphalt, signage and repairs

Contribute to site safety, including risk assessments and compliance with SWMS and SOPs

Operate plant, vehicles and equipment, including conducting basic maintenance checks

Use mobile technology and systems to record data, incidents and daily activities
-
Work collaboratively with supervisors and team members and engage respectfully with the public

Identify and suggest improvements to traffic management arrangements

Applicants are made aware that the essential requirements to be obtained within the six-month period are a mandatory requirement to successfully complete the probation and to be appointed permanently to this position.
Roads ACT will support the successful applicant through the training requirements by organising up to two sessions at the cost to Roads ACT. Should additional attempts be required to obtain the applicable license/certificate in the six-month period, the costs to acquire these will be borne by the successful applicant.
To be eligible to progress beyond GSO5 pay increment 5.3 requires:

Attainment of a Certificate III in Civil Construction (Road Construction and Maintenance) or other equivalent relevant certification as approved by the Senior Manager, Roads ACT.

In the absence of Certificate training providers, Roads ACT supports the attainment of Certificate III in Civil Construction (Road Construction and Maintenance) or other equivalent relevant certification as approved by the Senior Director, Works, Roads ACT. After successful completion of the minimum certificate requirements, the pay increment can be increased beyond the GSO5.3 through an accelerated incremental advancement.
