Summary
The Senior Network Engineer designs, implements, optimises and supports network environments across our client base. Working closely with Pre-Sales, Project Engineers and the Service Desk, this role provides technical leadership on network infrastructure projects and acts as the senior escalation point for complex support issues. The focus of the role is to deliver secure, reliable and scalable networking solutions, while upholding networking standards, shaping solution design, and ensuring network-related projects and services are delivered successfully.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Network Design & Implementation
- Design, implement and maintain network infrastructure across multiple client environments, spanning switching, routing, wireless, firewalls, SD-WAN and VPN technologies.
- Lead the technical delivery of client network projects - infrastructure refreshes, migrations, upgrades and new site builds - from design through to go-live.
- Configure and deploy network hardware and security appliances in line with approved solution designs, vendor best practices and Comwire IT's delivery standards.
- Contribute to network standards, configuration templates and deployment methodologies that support consistent, repeatable delivery across a diverse client base.
- Support hybrid cloud and datacentre networking, including connectivity between client sites, Microsoft 365/Azure environments and third-party datacentres.
Network Operations & Support
- Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex networking and connectivity issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve advanced LAN, WAN, WLAN, SD-WAN, and Internet connectivity problems.
- Monitor network performance, availability, and capacity, identifying issues and improvement opportunities.
- Conduct network audits, health checks, and infrastructure assessments.
- Work with carriers, vendors, and third-party providers to resolve service-related issues.
Network Security
- Implement and maintain network security solutions including firewalls, VPNs, network segmentation, and access controls.
- Assist with designing and implementing secure network architectures.
- Identify security risks within client environments and recommend remediation strategies.
- Support the implementation of technologies such as Multifactor Authentication, Conditional Access, Network Access Control (NAC), and Zero Trust principles where applicable.
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Network Engineers, Project Engineers, and Service Desk staff.
- Participate in peer reviews and technical solution validation.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards, processes, and documentation.
- Assist the Pre-Sales team with technical discovery, solution design, and effort estimation for networking opportunities. Documentation & Administration
- Maintain accurate network diagrams, technical documentation, configuration records, and operational procedures.
• Ensure all project notes, time entries, and support activities are recorded within company systems. • Produce implementation plans, change documentation, and technical handover documentation.
- Ensure documentation remains current and reflects the operational environment.
- Maintain awareness of emerging networking, security, and cloud technologies.
- Participate in training and certification programs relevant to networking and cybersecurity.

Technical Skills & Experience
- 5+ years experience in a Network Engineer or Senior Network Engineer role within an MSP or Helpdesk environment
- Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and supporting multi-client networking solutions.

- Strong troubleshooting skills across:

- Internet and Carrier Services
- Experience producing network diagrams, technical designs, standards, and operational documentation.
- Exposure to cloud networking technologies including Azure and AWS.
- Experience supporting datacentre and hosted infrastructure environments.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and security frameworks.
- Current Driver's Licence
