Tell me about this role
This is a senior engineering role working within a complex Defence maritime environment, supporting the delivery and sustainment of critical capability. You will operate as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to engineering governance, technical assurance, and the delivery of system-level outcomes across the full lifecycle.
The role focuses on ensuring engineering solutions are fit for purpose, safe, and aligned to operational needs. You’ll be involved in everything from requirements definition and design activities through to validation, sustainment planning, and ongoing technical support. It’s an opportunity to work on nationally significant projects while collaborating closely with internal stakeholders, industry partners, and technical specialists.
What will I be doing day to day?
- Capture, analyse, and manage system requirements to ensure they are clear, traceable, and meet operational needs
- Support and contribute to engineering design activities, including development and assessment of design changes
- Conduct technical investigations and provide solutions to complex engineering issues
- Prepare technical documentation such as scopes of work, reports, and lifecycle engineering artefacts
- Contribute to safety engineering activities including hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety case development
- Plan and support verification and validation activities to ensure systems meet required standards and performance expectations
- Assist in developing sustainment and maintenance planning requirements
- Support logistics and engineering integration activities, including inventory and supportability considerations
- Provide technical advice and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders across engineering, operations, and supply chain
- Ensure activities align with relevant engineering governance frameworks, standards, and best practices
What sort of skills do I need?
- Degree-qualified engineer (Mechanical, Mechatronics or similar discipline)
- Strong experience working in maritime and/or Defence engineering environments
- Demonstrated systems engineering experience across the full capability lifecycle (requirements, design, verification & validation, sustainment)
- Experience with engineering change management and technical problem-solving
- Understanding of engineering governance, safety, and regulatory frameworks
- Experience supporting sustainment, logistics, or asset management activities
- Strong analytical and organisational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to a variety of stakeholders
- Proven ability to build effective working relationships in multidisciplinary teams
- Australian citizenship and an NV1 security clearance\
