About the Role:
The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) is one of South Australia's fastest-growing health networks, serving a diverse and expanding community across Adelaide's northern suburbs.
We are seeking a motivated and analytically minded Data Analytics Officer to join the Data Analytics and Service Insights & Improvement unit. This role supports the delivery of high-quality, timely and actionable analytics to inform operational, clinical and strategic decision-making across NALHN.
Working under the direction of the Director, Data Analytics and Service Insights & Improvement, you will contribute to the development of analytical outputs including dashboards, reports, data models, and project documentation. You will work collaboratively with finance, clinical, operational and administrative stakeholders to turn complex health data into clear, practical and evidence-based insights.
What You'll Be Working On
In this role, you will support analytics-led service improvement initiatives across NALHN by extracting, analysing, validating and interpreting clinical, operational and financial datasets.
Your work will include:
- Extracting, cleaning and analysing data from SA Health systems, data warehouses and other source systems to support network-wide reporting, performance monitoring and service improvement.
- Applying analytical and data science techniques where appropriate, including statistical analysis, predictive modelling and introductory machine learning approaches, to identify patterns, generate insights and support service improvement.
- Developing and maintaining analytical queries, datasets, dashboards, reports and visualisations using tools such as Excel, Databricks, SQL and Power BI.
- Undertaking detailed quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify trends, patterns, risks, variation and opportunities to improve service performance, efficiency and decision-making.
- Contributing to project delivery activities for service improvement initiatives, including supporting project scoping, defining objectives and deliverables, developing project documentation, tracking milestones, engaging stakeholders and monitoring progress against timelines.
- Producing clear, accurate and audience-appropriate reports, presentations, dashboards and briefing materials that communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Translating complex analytical findings, model outputs and performance insights into clear, practical recommendations that support service improvement initiatives.
- Working collaboratively with clinical, operational, finance and administrative stakeholders, both within NALHN and externally, to define improvement opportunities, deliver service improvement initiatives and support evidence-based change.
- Contributing to a culture of continuous learning, improvement and knowledge sharing by developing analytical capability, growing knowledge of healthcare datasets, adopting new tools and techniques, and supporting capability uplift across the unit.
- Supporting data validation, reconciliation and quality assurance activities, contributing to data quality improvement initiatives, and complying with relevant SA Health data governance, privacy and confidentiality requirements.
What You'll Bring
- Demonstrated experience in data analytics, statistical analysis, business intelligence or a closely related field, with exposure to predictive modelling or data science techniques highly regarded.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use analytical techniques to interpret complex datasets and translate findings into practical insights.
- Proficiency in tools such as SQL and business intelligence platforms, preferably Power BI, to develop reports, dashboards and analytical outputs.
- Experience working with large and/or complex datasets, including data extraction, transformation, validation and reconciliation.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with stakeholders, gather requirements, explain findings clearly and build trust in analytical outputs.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to data integrity, quality assurance and reproducibility.
- The ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and work independently or collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A willingness to learn and develop knowledge of NALHN and SA Health’s reporting ecosystem, public healthcare datasets, clinical systems and operational processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, briefing materials and presentations for varied audiences.
- Ability to drive projects to achieve practical outcomes, with experience supporting project planning, multidisciplinary stakeholder coordination, milestone tracking, issue resolution and implementation of service improvement initiatives.

NALHN provides a range of hospital (inpatient), outpatient, community and home-based services across multiple sites in Adelaide’s north and north-eastern suburbs, including Aboriginal health, mental health, and GP services.
