About the Opportunity

Based at John Hunter Hospital in the heart of Newcastle, our Emergency Department is one of Australia's busiest mixed Adult and Paediatric tertiary referral centres, caring for more than 85,000 presentations each year. As the only designated Trauma Referral Centre in NSW outside Sydney, we provide specialist emergency care for a diverse and complex patient population, including trauma, stroke, neurosurgical, cardiothoracic, cardiology, orthopaedic, paediatric and adolescent mental health presentations. The department includes dedicated Adult and Paediatric Resuscitation and Trauma Bays, Acute Adult and Paediatric treatment areas, Fast Track services and an Emergency Short Stay Unit (ESSU), offering nurses exposure to a broad range of emergency presentations and opportunities for ongoing professional growth. What You Will Be Doing
As a Registered Nurse within the Emergency Department, you will assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care in collaboration with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team to achieve high-quality patient outcomes. Working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, you will utilise your clinical judgement and critical thinking skills to provide evidence-based care to patients presenting with a wide range of emergency and acute healthcare needs. You will contribute to a culture of safety, teamwork and continuous improvement while delivering compassionate, person-centred care. You will be supported by experienced Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Unit Managers and Clinical Nurse Specialists who are dedicated to ensuring staff have access to the latest clinical knowledge, skills and evidence-based practice. Our robust education framework includes ongoing professional development opportunities, individualised specialty training and access to the highly regarded Transition to Emergency Nursing Program.
