Primary objective
Provide high level leadership, advice and recommendations to the Superintendent to direct the Centre’s security activities,
contribute to informed decision making, drive continuous improvements and enhance long-term planning. Coordinate and oversee
external transfer and escort activities, be responsible for the development, implementation, review and updating of the Centre’s
security and risk management practices and policies, and manage the Centre’s infrastructure including repairs and maintenance,
minor new works and the security of contractors.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide timely and high quality evidence based strategic and operational advice information and reports to the Superintendent
and / or DSI’s
2. Develop, implement and oversee processes and logistics required to ensure the safe and secure management and movement
of detainees outside the Centre
3. Lead the planning, implementation and management of the Detention Centre’s security services to effectively manage risk
across all aspects of the Centre’s operations and ensure seamless security services are provided throughout the Centre.
4. Assist the Superintendent manage the Centre’s infrastructure to ensure asset usage is compliant with operating standards and
policy
5. Provide positive day to day / operational leadership, support and mentoring to staff under the control of the position through
the timely allocation of tasks and the provision of timely feedback and support, to ensure that staff perform their roles
efficiently and effectively.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Previous experience operating at a senior level providing targeted strategic and operational advice and recommendations to
senior management and subordinates.
2. Previous recent experience operating and applying a risk management framework and in developing and administering risk
management plans in collaboration with key stakeholders, preferably gained in a youth detention or similar environment.
3. Significant experience successfully scheduling, planning and delivering minor works and maintenance programs, preferably
gained working in a highly regulated or detention centre environment.
4. Demonstrated experience developing collaboratively stakeholder relationships and working successfully with contractors and
service providers.
5. Significant experience in incident management and investigation, and operational security management and the oversight of
security systems.
6. Demonstrated experience liaising, negotiating and working successfully across government and / or non - government
agencies.
7. Experience managing a high-volume workload within tight deadlines across several stakeholder groups.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in criminal justice, security management and / or building, facilities management
2. Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System (AIIMS) Level 2 minimum
