Thank you for your interest in the Maintenance/Facility Officer position at Noble Park English Language School. Our school is a multi-campus school which provides an intensive English language course for newly arrived migrants and refugees from non-English speaking backgrounds in the southeast Victoria region.
The students are introduced to the Victorian education system and assisted with settlement in Victoria. The basis of the curriculum is the study of the English language; however, the curriculum aims to prepare students for life in Australia. Many students have been displaced by war, economic hardship, or political persecution. The school is committed to assisting students to regain trust in people and systems and to develop the self-esteem and confidence required to face the challenges of a new country.
At any given over 50 different language groups are represented. The school provides a secure and caring learning environment where staff and students respect and tolerate differences between cultures and religions and caters for individual differences in language acquisition.
Since 2009 the school has expanded to five campuses due to changing settlement patterns in the region. The main campus is at Noble Park and caters for both primary and secondary students. Casey campus is located at Hampton Park and caters for primary and secondary students. Cranbourne campus is located at Cranbourne Secondary College and caters for primary and secondary students. Our Springvale campus and Stonnington (Glen Huntly) campuses are for primary students.

Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.
Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.
This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years. Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g. therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered. Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

- Maintenance Officer is a member of, and works cooperatively with, the NPELS Buildings and Grounds Committee
and OHS Committee.
- Coordinate, organise and determine work priorities.
- Coordinate and induct contractors according to Department requirements.
- Have competent ability in and knowledge of building and carpentry.
- Ensure the efficient operation of the work area within the regular direction of the leadership team.
- Prepare documentation/basic reports for meetings.
- Carry out Workplace inspections each term to determine work needing to be undertaken.
- Complete or engage the necessary trades to complete these tasks.
- Follow school guidelines when expending money for goods and services.
- Carry out required inspections, input appropriate data and monitor the school Maintenance System to record works, maintenance and inspections.
- Be familiar with the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and any other systems of the school.
- Keep operation manuals current and arrange regular services on systems and equipment.
- Liaise with the Assistant Principal on the Emergency Management operations of the school.
- Ensure all building works are carried out in accordance with DE requirements.
- Ensure that broken and/or damaged furniture/equipment is repaired, or if appropriate, disposed of in accordance with DE School Asset guidelines.
- Oversee the AIMS or Similar system/s
- Provide the Principal class and Business manager with reports, statistics and advice as required.
- To respond to any emergency situations in an appropriate manner and undertake duties as may be required outside normal working hours or at weekends.
- Comply with the NPELS policies and procedures
- Undertake training as required.
- Undertake other duties relevant to the field of responsibility as requested by Principal class.
- Coordinate the use and maintenance of school buildings and equipment.
- Liaise and negotiate with service providers in respect to the cost and quality of services.
- Supervise the delivery of contracted services.
- Manage the development and collection of resource material at the school.
- Other duties of a similar nature may be assigned by the Principal, Business Manager or nominated delegate, consistent with the Education Support Class Level 1 Range 3 classification, the VGSA 2022 and the operational requirements of the school.
