Chohan Constructions is an established building and carpentry business operating from Kellyville, New South Wales. The business provides a range of residential building and construction services, including new homes, renovations, concreting, decks, pergolas and landscaping.
The business undertakes residential construction and property improvement projects requiring skilled tradespeople capable of interpreting building drawings and specifications, preparing construction materials, erecting structural frameworks, installing fixtures and fittings, and completing renovation and repair work to appropriate standards of quality and workmanship.
Carpentry forms an important part of the services provided by Chohan Constructions. The business requires skilled tradespeople who can undertake structural and general carpentry activities safely and efficiently while coordinating with management, contractors, suppliers and other trades involved in construction projects.
To support its ongoing construction activities, project commitments and operational requirements, Chohan Constructions is seeking to appoint a dedicated full-time Carpenter.
About the Role
The Carpenter will be responsible for constructing, erecting, installing, renovating and repairing structures and fixtures made from timber, plywood, wallboard and other appropriate construction materials.
The role involves interpreting drawings and specifications, determining material requirements and dimensions, preparing layouts, measuring and cutting materials, assembling structural components and installing completed structures and fixtures.
The Carpenter will undertake work across new residential construction, renovations, decks, pergolas and other building projects undertaken by Chohan Constructions. The position may involve wall and roof framing, flooring, installation of doors and windows, exterior building components, concrete formwork and repair of existing structures and fittings.
The successful applicant must be capable of working independently and as part of a construction team while maintaining appropriate standards of accuracy, safety and workmanship. The Carpenter will coordinate with management, other tradespeople, contractors and suppliers to ensure construction activities are completed efficiently and according to project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
The Carpenter will be responsible for:
- Studying drawings, plans and specifications to determine materials required, dimensions, construction methods and installation procedures.
- Reviewing construction requirements and determining appropriate sequences and methods for completing assigned carpentry activities.
- Selecting, ordering and preparing timber and other construction materials according to project specifications and building requirements.
- Preparing layouts and accurately measuring and marking timber, plywood, wallboard and other materials before cutting and assembly.
- Cutting, shaping and preparing construction materials using appropriate carpentry hand tools, power tools and equipment.
- Cutting and forming timber joints and accurately fitting components together to create structures, fixtures and fittings.
- Assembling and securing cut and shaped components using appropriate nailing, fixing and fastening methods.
- Constructing and erecting wall frameworks, roof framing and other structural timber components for new residential construction and renovation projects.
- Laying sub-flooring and floorboards and verifying the level, alignment, dimensions and trueness of completed structures.
- Installing fascia panels, roof sheathing and other relevant building components associated with carpentry activities.
- Fitting exterior wall cladding, door frames and window frames in accordance with drawings, measurements and project requirements.
- Assembling prepared timber and other materials to form structures and fittings ready for installation.
- Constructing and installing decks, pergolas and other external timber structures forming part of the construction and property improvement services provided by Chohan Constructions.
- Undertaking carpentry work associated with new homes, renovations and alterations, including structural and finishing activities relevant to individual projects.
- Inspecting existing structures, fixtures and fittings to determine repair, replacement or renovation requirements.
- Repairing and replacing existing timber structures, fixtures and fittings where they are worn, damaged or require modification.
- Undertaking alterations to existing structures in accordance with project plans, measurements and construction requirements.
- Constructing concrete formwork where required to support concreting and other building activities undertaken by the business.
- Working with other appropriate materials, including laminates and metals, where these materials form part of the structures or fittings being constructed or installed.
- Checking completed structures and installations against drawings and specifications to ensure appropriate dimensions, alignment and quality.
- Identifying material requirements and communicating with management and suppliers to ensure required materials are available for scheduled work.
- Using construction materials efficiently and appropriately to minimise unnecessary waste while maintaining required construction standards.
- Operating and maintaining carpentry hand tools, power tools and other construction equipment safely and appropriately.
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised work area and ensuring tools and materials are appropriately stored.
- Coordinating carpentry activities with other tradespeople and contractors to support efficient sequencing and completion of construction work.
- Communicating project progress, material requirements and construction issues to management where necessary.
- Identifying and resolving practical carpentry and construction issues encountered during project activities.
- Ensuring completed carpentry work meets appropriate standards of accuracy, structural integrity, quality and workmanship.
- Following applicable workplace health and safety requirements, construction site procedures and safe work practices at all times.
- Correctly using personal protective equipment and taking appropriate precautions when operating tools, equipment and machinery.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
- An AQF Certificate III in Carpentry or a relevant qualification, including the required on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV; or
- At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification.
In some instances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification. Registration or licensing may also be required where applicable to the work being undertaken.

- Strong practical knowledge of residential carpentry and construction methods.
- Ability to accurately interpret drawings, plans, measurements and specifications.
- Competence in measuring, cutting, shaping, assembling and installing timber and other building materials.
- Sound knowledge of structural framing, roof framing, flooring and general carpentry.
- Ability to construct and install doors, windows, cladding, fixtures and fittings.
- Experience across new construction, renovations, alterations and repair work.
- Practical knowledge of timber joints, structural assembly and installation methods.
- Ability to construct decks, pergolas and other external timber structures.
- Knowledge of concrete formwork where required.
- Competence in the safe use of carpentry hand tools, power tools and construction equipment.
- Ability to check completed structures for correct measurements, level, alignment and overall quality.

Work Conditions
- Work will be undertaken at construction and project sites as required by Chohan Constructions.
- The role involves practical, hands-on carpentry and construction work across new homes, renovations, decks, pergolas and other building projects.
- The successful applicant may be required to work across different project locations according to the operational requirements of the business.
- The Carpenter will coordinate with management, tradespeople, contractors, suppliers and other relevant project personnel.
- The position requires the safe use of carpentry tools, power tools, construction equipment and building materials.
- All work must be undertaken in accordance with applicable workplace health and safety requirements, construction site procedures, project specifications and established safe working practices.
- The successful applicant will be expected to maintain professional standards of workmanship, reliability and conduct while carrying out work on behalf of Chohan Constructions.
