About the Opportunity
Cheap Geek is looking for an experienced and motivated Mobile Phone and Laptop Repair Technician to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of our Brisbane CBD repair shop and help grow our device repair business.
This is more than a bench technician position. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the repair process from the initial customer enquiry through to diagnosis, quotation, repair and collection.
The successful applicant will have access to Cheap Geek's established customer base of more than 7,000 customers, providing significant opportunities to generate repeat business, promote upgrades and develop additional repair and technology services.
The Role
You will be responsible for managing repairs through the complete customer journey, including:
- Responding to new repair enquiries and calling customers back.
- Discussing device faults and obtaining relevant model and repair information.
- Checking parts availability and pricing with wholesalers and suppliers.
- Preparing and communicating repair quotations.
- Ordering required parts and maintaining accurate purchase records.
- Checking customers' devices into the repair management system.
- Diagnosing faults and recommending appropriate repairs.
- Completing repairs efficiently and professionally.
- Keeping customers informed throughout the repair process.
- Processing completed repairs, payments and collections.
- Managing warranty and return repairs where required.
- Maintaining a clean, organised and professional repair workshop.
Mobile Phone & Tablet Repairs
You should be confident performing common mobile device repairs, including:
- Screen and display replacements.
- Battery replacements.
- Charging port repairs and replacements.
- Camera, speaker, microphone and button replacements.
- Housing and back-glass repairs.
- Device diagnostics and fault finding.
- Software troubleshooting.
- Water or liquid-damage assessment.
- Component-level repairs where within your technical capability.
- Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and other major device brands.
- Tablet and iPad repairs.
Laptop & Computer Repairs
The position also includes responsibility for laptop and computer repairs, including:
- Laptop screen replacement.
- Laptop battery replacement.
- Keyboard, trackpad and charging component replacement.
- RAM and storage upgrades.
- Fan and cooling-system replacement.
- Motherboard replacement and associated repairs.
- Laptop disassembly and reassembly.
- Hardware diagnostics and fault finding.
- Circuit-board diagnosis and repair where technically appropriate.
- Software and operating-system troubleshooting.
- Data-related troubleshooting and support.
- Building and upgrading custom and gaming PCs.
- Diagnosing PC hardware and compatibility issues.
Shop Management & Customer Service
As the person responsible for the day-to-day repair operation, you will also:
- Answer incoming telephone and customer enquiries.
- Manage repair bookings and customer expectations.
- Provide professional technical advice without unnecessary jargon.
- Prepare accurate quotations before commencing chargeable work.
- Manage parts ordering and supplier communication.
- Maintain accurate inventory and parts records.
- Ensure all repairs have comprehensive technician notes.
- Maintain detailed repair and service records.
- Prepare technical or diagnostic reports where required.
- Identify opportunities for accessories, upgrades, replacement devices and additional services.
- Maintain high standards of shop presentation and customer service.
- Ensure customer devices are handled carefully and securely.
- Manage your workload independently and prioritise urgent repairs appropriately.
Remuneration
The position operates under a performance-based contractor arrangement, providing the successful technician with the opportunity to directly benefit from the repair business they generate and complete.
The remuneration structure includes:
Uncapped Income Potential - 50% share of labour revenue generated from eligible completed repairs.
Fixed Manager Fee - $250 per week

You will also have access to Cheap Geek's established database of 10,000+ customers, allowing approved repair promotions, upgrade campaigns and customer offers to help develop additional business.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Demonstrated mobile phone repair experience.
- iPhone and Samsung repair capability.
- Mobile phone screen and battery replacement experience.
- Laptop screen and battery replacement experience.
- Laptop disassembly and reassembly skills.
- Laptop motherboard-related repair experience.
- RAM, storage, fan and motherboard replacement experience.
- Strong hardware diagnostic and troubleshooting ability.
- General IT and software troubleshooting capability.
- Excellent customer communication skills.
- Ability to quote and explain repairs to customers.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
Experience with microsoldering and board-level repairs will be highly regarded.
Vehicle & Licence
You must hold a current driver's licence and have access to a reliable vehicle.
Where required, the position may involve arranging collection and delivery of customer laptops or other equipment within the Brisbane area.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who combines technical ability with commercial initiative.
You should be comfortable repairing a phone at the bench, diagnosing a difficult laptop fault, speaking to a customer about their options, obtaining supplier pricing, preparing a quote and managing the job through to payment.
This position would particularly suit an experienced repair technician who wants greater independence and the opportunity to take ownership of an established repair operation rather than simply work as an employed technician.
