The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join a high-performing team delivering critical data capabilities for a major government program.
In this role, you will lead the design and development of scalable data solutions, working across modern cloud platforms to ingest, transform, and deliver high-quality data for analytics and reporting.

You will play a key role in shaping data architecture, improving existing solutions, and providing technical guidance to stakeholders across the program.

Engagement Details

Location: QLD, WA, ACT, VIC, NSW, NT, SA, TAS
Contract: 12 months + extensions
Work Arrangement: 40‑hour working week with flexible working arrangements

Key Responsibilities

Design, build and maintain end-to-end data pipelines and ETL solutions
Develop scalable data ingestion and transformation processes across cloud platforms
Build and optimise data models to support reporting and analytics use cases
Work with structured and unstructured data from multiple sources
Implement CI/CD pipelines and contribute to DevOps/DataOps practices
Improve and refine existing data engineering solutions and processes
Provide technical advice to stakeholders and non-technical audiences
Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and networking teams
Ensure data quality, performance optimisation, and operational stability
Produce documentation including data flows, mappings, and runbooks

What You’ll Need

Strong experience as a Senior Data Engineer in enterprise environments
Hands-on experience with Azure data stack (ADF, SQL Server, Databricks, Synapse)
Experience with ETL/ELT pipelines and large-scale data integration
Strong SQL and Python skills (or similar scripting languages)
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps/DataOps practices
Solid understanding of data modelling and data warehousing concepts
Experience working across AWS and/or Azure cloud environments
Exposure to containerisation technologies (e.g. Docker/Kubernetes)
Experience with data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
Strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement experience
Ability to work autonomously and deliver within tight timeframes
