POSITION PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE

To lead a team and be involved with provide cleaning services to ensure Council assets
and facilities are kept in a clean, tidy and hygienic condition for the use of staff and the
public.

RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: (Position Title): Coordinator Cleansing Services

Report to: (Position Number) P00336

Staff Responsibility: Up to 15

Key Internal Relationships: Internal Staff, occupiers of BMCCs built assets

Key External Relationships: General Public, tenants and usergroups within
BMCCs built assets

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As directed by the Coordinator Cleansing Services – carry out cleaning duties to the

high standard including filling in for subordinate staff as necessary

Coordinate daily activities for the building cleansing team

Assist Council meeting setup and clean up after meetings

Contribute to help Council deliver its sustainability goals.

Monitor day to day cleaning in Council managed buildings, Aquatic Centres and

Libraries

Prepare timesheets and returns for all Cleansing staff and arrange rosters to back fill

staff on leave

Provide Team Leadership to effectively manage the day-to-day operation of the

service, delivering outcomes that meet specifications service level agreements, or as
otherwise directed by the coordinator or manager.

Develop a “team culture” within the section based on a positive attitude towards

attendance, increased productivity and work performance through training and
communication.

Maintain security of all nominated Council assets

Maintain awareness of new cleansing methods, materials and equipment

Determine material and equipment quantities and assist in purchase/stores

requisitioning

Effectively encourage, promote and enforce safe work practices within the workforce

and maintain safe work sites in line with BMCCs WHS Management System and
Policies.

Ensure that any work place injury or incident is reported and investigated promptly in

accordance with the adopted policies and procedures

Ensure that all vehicles, plant and equipment are maintained in good working condition

and in a clean and tidy condition by the drivers/operators.

The incumbent will be required to operate across the LGA throughout various built

assets.

Ensure that on-site risk assessments are completed in accordance with the SafeWork

guidelines and the WHS Act and that measures are put in place for the prevention of
work-place injuries.

Work maybe required on weekends and Public Holidays & backfill staff leave.

Clean scheduled buildings, sites, high profile tourist destinations and other areas as

directed.

Daily clean of offices, amenities, common areas, glazing, workstations and areas of

foot traffic within and around buildings.

Liaise with internal staff and report any unresolved service issues and customer

concerns to the Coordinator.

Report any issues concerning public safety, damaged Council property or other

hazards likely to cause injury to the public in accordance with the specified guidelines.

Wear uniform / clothing supplied by BMCC as well as required Personal Protective

Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the task being undertaken.

Other duties as specified by the Coordinator or Manager.

Workplace Health & Safety

Ensure compliance with WHS obligations and responsibilities as outlined in Councils
policies and procedures and under the relevant WHS legislation. These include but are
not limited to: identifying potentially unsafe situations or work practices and notifying your
Supervisor or Manager (or the Health, Safety Manager/Area Safety Representative);
never performing a task that you believe is dangerous or for which you do not have the
experience, or have not received appropriate instructions and training or where the correct
equipment to carry out the task safely is not available; always work in a safe manner and
in accordance with safety instructions, where applicable; use the work equipment supplied
for the job, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions), and any personal
protective equipment, which the Council deems necessary and has provided; be safety
aware and report any actions to your line manager which will assist the Council to meet
its legal workplace health and safety obligations.

You have the right to cease or direct cessation of unsafe work. In addition you are required
at all times to comply with Councils Asbestos Management Plan and Policy.

Compliance & Risk

You will be required to undertake team-based risk assessments and pre starts on site to
identify, control and escalate risks to the Coordinator.

COMMUNICATION

The position is part of a team where communication and co-operation within the team is
essential to carry out the duties of the position. Escalation of safety or maintenance related
issues is imperative at being successful in this role.

Clear verbal and written communication skills are required to ensure information is relayed
and documented to supervisors.

The position communicates information across other teams and provides advice in the
development of processes and procedures to ensure continual improvement in the
operation of their work activity.

JUDGEMENT & PROBLEM SOLVING

The position follows set procedures and schedules, as set out by the appropriate level of
supervision and works to an established operational program. Areas or situations that
arise from unforeseen circumstances require direct communication to supervisors and
team members.

This position requires forward planning to ensure that levels of consumables and materials
are always available.

This position requires the ability to manage resources and staff to ensure that there is
continuous cover of cleansing services to built assets.

AUTHORITY

This position has no delegations. The position is required to make minor decisions and
undertake initial consultation. This position can schedule rostered staff. Any decisions
requiring further investigation or consultation are referred to the supervisor.

SKILL, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES

ESSENTIAL

Have proven experience in leading a team, and a sound knowledge of building

cleaning methods and procedures

Ability to work both unsupervised and in a team environment and make decisions that

reflect organizational values and requirements

Have a flexible approach to working hours and locations including working outside of

normal business hours and on weekends

Have a proven ability to maintain confidentiality

Be readily adaptable to change, including travelling to a variety of work locations.

Have knowledge of, and a commitment to Occupational Health & Safety and Equal

Employment Opportunity principles

Proven ability to communicate effectively with others and lead team discussions

Maintain an awareness of chemicals and their use and be able to use and understand

a Material Safety Data Sheets

Must be able to provide own transport to all work locations

Ability to utilise technology to enter data into web based browers

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Class C drivers licence

Chemical handling (or willingness to obtain)

DESIREABLE

Experience working in a local government environment

Knowledge of building security alarms

Willingness to obtain appropriate recondised cleansing course
