We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Metals Manager to lead and optimise the performance of our metals freight segments. This role is operating from 12pm-8:30pm.
About the Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role is responsible for the end-to-end management of the metals portfolio, including daily reporting, customer relationships and operational alignment. This is a hands-on role working closely with the Metals Coordinator to ensure service delivery. This role has a strong operational focus and requires active involvement in day‑to‑day decision‑making to meet customer and business requirements.
You will act as the key interface between customers, operations, and internal stakeholders to ensure efficient, safe, and profitable movement of metals freight through the Strait Link network. You will be accountable for delivering consistent service outcomes while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, safety and commercial performance.
This role will suit someone who thrives in a fast‑paced logistics environment and enjoys balancing customer expectations with operational realities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage Strait Link’s metals freight portfolio across inbound and outbound volumes
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers in the metals and manufacturing sectors
- Manage teams across both shifts including weekend teams
- Work closely with terminal and vessel operations teams to ensure service delivery meets customer expectations
- Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives across supply chain efficiency
- Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards
About You
- Proven experience in logistics, shipping, freight, or supply chain management—ideally within bulk or metals sectors
- Strong commercial acumen with experience managing key customers
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, operationally complex environment
- Excellent stakeholder management skills across both customers and internal teams
- Data-driven mindset with the ability to translate insights into actionable outcomes
- A practical, solutions-focused approach with high attention to detail
- Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience managing teams across multiple shifts or operational environments
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to make decisions in time‑critical situations
