This is a fixed term, full-time role till 30th October 2029.

About the Department

The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

About the Victorian School Building Authority

The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) is part of the Department of Education. Established in 2016, it oversees Victoria's largest school building program since the state introduced free public education in the 1870s.

The VSBA upgrades and expands existing schools and plans, designs and builds new schools to meet enrolment demand. We also support schools to maintain their buildings and grounds by offering expert advice and coordinating maintenance programs and grants.

With Victoria recently introducing two years of funded kindergarten, the VSBA is also working with the early childhood sector on a massive kindergarten construction program.

About the Division

The Asset Management Division helps schools maintain and manage their buildings and grounds and ensures they are more energy efficient. The Division trains school leaders as facilities managers and supports them to develop school maintenance plans. They coordinate programs, assessments, and systems to ensure schools are routinely maintained and cleaned.

The Division includes the Asset Management Branch, School Asset Management Support Branch, Facilities Branch, Maintenance Delivery Branch and the Programs Branch.

About the Role

This role will commence from 31 October 2026 and is a fixed term contract to 30 October 2029.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the project management and delivery of relocatable modular buildings to Victorian schools, in line with the VSBA and construction industry standards.

The role requires a high level of construction project management and a strong customer service focus with school staff and communities, and business units across the VSBA and Department.

The key accountabilities for the Senior Project Officer – Modular Classrooms Program are to:

Manage and coordinate the work of consultants and contractors to deliver projects on time and within budget
Manage project and program objectives, scope, costs, time and quality requirements
Ensure all project meet VSBA and National Construction Code standards
Negotiate with, and influence, key stakeholders in the development and management of projects
Provide clear, accurate and timely project updates and advice to senior management
Collaborate with internal teams on implementation of projects and programs
Establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders, particularly schools, to manage risk and resolve issues impacting the successful delivery of projects and programs
Ensure project milestones are captured and reported in VSBA and department corporate systems

All VSBA staff have a shared responsibility to meet the same service standards outlined in the VSBA Customer Service Charter. Our goal is to make every interaction with the VSBA a positive one for our customers, colleagues and key partners regardless of our individual role or team.

This role requires regular travel to school sites across Victoria.

This is a hybrid-working role, with 3 days in the office or on-site, and 2 days remotely.

Attributes

The ideal candidate will have a background in construction proj ect management and program implementation, with experience managing diverse stakeholders to achieve required outcomes.

They will be be highly organised, detail-oriented, self-sufficient and works autonomously, demonstrating responsiveness, integrity and accountability.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

Desirable : a higher education qualification in building, construction, project management, or a relevant field
Desirable : demonstrated experience in a similar role within government
