Microsoft 365 Tenant-to-Tenant Migration Consultant / Engineer Role Purpose

The Microsoft 365 Tenant-to-Tenant Migration Consultant / Engineer is responsible for planning, configuring, executing, and supporting Microsoft 365 migration projects involving tenant consolidations, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and rebranding initiatives. The role focuses on delivering successful migrations of Microsoft 365 workloads, identities, devices, and collaboration platforms while ensuring minimal business disruption and a positive end-user experience.
Key Responsibilities Discovery & Planning

Conduct discovery and assessment of source and target environments.

Assess Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, and endpoint environments.

Identify migration dependencies, risks, remediation activities, and readiness requirements.
-
Develop migration strategies, migration waves, runbooks, cutover plans, and rollback procedures.
Migration Delivery
-
Execute pilot, pre-stage, delta, and production migration activities.
-
Configure and manage Microsoft 365 migration tooling.
-
Perform user, group, mailbox, and workload mappings between source and target environments.
-
Monitor migration progress, investigate issues, and coordinate remediation activities.

Support migration cutovers and post-migration validation activities.
-
Be flexible to working out side of normal business hours to support differing time zones.
Identity, Messaging & Collaboration
-
Support Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID migration activities.
-
Transpose and refine Group Policy objects from one domain to another.
-
Support Microsoft Entra Connect (Azure AD Connect) synchronization and troubleshooting.
-
Support migration of Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365 Groups, and related collaboration workloads.

Assist with UPN, SMTP, domain, and identity transformation activities.
Device Migration & Endpoint Management

Support endpoint migration activities including Microsoft Intune enrolment, device readiness, compliance validation, and user onboarding.

Validate mailbox access, permissions, Teams access, SharePoint access, OneDrive content, and device functionality following migration.
Stakeholder Coordination & Communication

Coordinate daily and weekly migration activities with Project Managers, Technical Leads, Engineers, Service Desk teams, and Client stakeholders.

Participate in project meetings, migration planning workshops, status reviews, and cutover planning sessions.

Provide regular progress updates, migration status reports, issue tracking, risk identification, and remediation updates to internal and external stakeholders.

Collaborate closely with customers, vendors, and delivery teams to ensure successful migration outcomes.

Support end-user communications, migration readiness activities, and hypercare coordination.
Hypercare & Support

Provide post-migration support for users and service desk teams.
-
Troubleshoot issues relating to Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, mail flow, permissions, devices, and user access.

Maintain migration documentation, issue registers, reporting, and operational handover material.
What we need to see from you:
Required Skills & Experience
-
Strong experience delivering Microsoft 365 tenant-to-tenant migration projects.
-
Experience with Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Entra ID, and Active Directory.
-
Experience with Microsoft Entra Connect (Azure AD Connect) and hybrid identity environments.
-
Understanding of Exchange Online mail flow, SMTP routing, DNS, domain migration, and messaging concepts.
-
Experience supporting device migration and endpoint management using Microsoft Intune.
-
Experience using enterprise migration tools such as AvePoint, Quest, BitTitan, ShareGate, or similar Microsoft 365 migration platforms.
-
Experience using PowerShell for Microsoft 365 administration, reporting, and automation.
-
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
-
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-
Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with Project Managers, Technical Leads, Engineers, Service Desk teams, vendors, and client stakeholders.

Experience presenting migration status, issues, risks, and remediation plans to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Experience working within structured project delivery environments.
Preferred Experience

Microsoft 365 merger, acquisition, divestiture, or tenant consolidation projects.

Enterprise-scale migration programs involving multiple migration waves and business units.

Hybrid Active Directory and Microsoft 365 environments.

Endpoint migration and Microsoft Intune deployment projects.

Consulting, managed services, or professional services experience.
