About the Role:
Forensic mental health sits at a unique intersection of clinical practice, the justice system, and community wellbeing. If you bring senior social work experience and a commitment to working with people whose lives have touched both mental health and legal systems, the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) has a focused opportunity for you.
Based in Adelaide's northern metro area, you will join the NALHN Forensic Mental Health Service as a Senior Social Worker on a full-time, fixed-term contract running from 20 July 2026 to 24 January 2027. You will carry a complex community caseload and contribute meaningfully to a specialist multidisciplinary team. Key responsibilities include:
Providing advanced social work assessment, therapeutic intervention, and care coordination for forensic community mental health consumers
Collaborating with mental health services, justice agencies, community services, and multidisciplinary teams to support recovery-oriented, community-based outcomes
Offering professional supervision and contributing to the development of less experienced practitioners
Participating in risk assessment processes and contributing to safety planning in line with NALHN clinical governance frameworks
What You Bring
Eligible membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
Demonstrated Social Work experience in a broad range of mental health clinical settings, including Forensic Mental Health Services
Experience in high level stakeholder engagement, supporting complex discharge planning and navigating access to community-based services
Solid grounding in trauma-informed, recovery-focused and culturally responsive practice
Experience working within or alongside criminal justice, corrections, or legal systems in a clinical capacity
Ability to navigate cross-agency collaboration in a complex, community-based setting
Understanding of SA Health policies and the South Australian mental health legislative framework
To be eligible for this position, you must possess an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

In this role you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills which will enable you to successfully problem solve, resolve conflicts and negotiate, including the ability to engage in difficult conversations, whilst building and maintaining relationships. An ability to effectively manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities and demonstrated resilience within a stressful and complex environment is essential to this role.
