The Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled RPAS Pilot and Instructor to conduct safe, compliant remotely piloted aircraft systems operations and deliver expert training to our people and customers both domestic and international locations. You will play a key role in mission planning, flight execution, and comprehensive training.
Responsibilities
Flight Operations:
- Safely operate assigned RPAS in accordance with CASR Part 101, DASR, 20 REGT SOPs and applicable foreign aviation authority requirements, in addition to Insitu Pacific's Operations Manual, manufacturer limitations and the company SMS.
- Prepare and approve comprehensive pre-flight mission briefings (weather, Notice to Airmen (NOTAMs), Special Instructions (SPINs), airspace approvals, crew allocations, system configuration/status, communication and risk controls) and issue briefs to crew and stakeholders prior to flight.
- Evaluate customer mission requirements, conduct operational risk assessments and determine required airspace approvals.
- Coordinate mission specifics with RPAS crew, Air Traffic Control (ATC) units and external stakeholders; review the Airspace Control Plan and final Mission Logs prior to operations.
- Execute and command approved mission flights to collect and deliver full-motion video and sensor data, ensuring data quality and delivery within agreed timeliness.
- Ensure completion and submission of flight reports, mission logs, sensor data logs and post-flight administration in accordance with documentation standards.
- May conduct demonstration flights to support customer engagement, capability validation and training, ensuring compliance with ReOC, host-nation approvals and company safety controls.
- Report all safety occurrences, hazards and near-misses through the company SMS and participate in safety investigations and corrective actions in line with ReOC obligations.
- Conduct operator-level functional checks, pre-flight and post-flight inspections, and basic troubleshooting of RPAS and ground support equipment; record defects and coordinate maintenance actions with licensed maintenance personnel per company procedures.
- Conduct periodic inventory checks of operational equipment, batteries and spares; reports cycle counts and discrepancies to Flight Operations Team Lead.
- Conduct on-site formal/informal technical training.
Training
- Review training syllabuses, class rosters, students training records and courseware requirements.
- Determine daily instructional needs / objectives and adjust content and delivery as necessary.
- Identify and schedule training resources to include facilities, hardware/equipment, and flight time availability.
- Verify that all resources and daily training content is compliant with contractual and regulatory requirements and maintenance standards.
- Conduct classroom, practical, flight and simulation instruction and practices in both formal and field environments for Pilot courses.
- Obtain real-time student feedback and adjust delivery to meet training objectives.
- Assign student work, administer informal student assessments, perform remedial instruction and complete daily student records and other required documentation.
- Measure student performance against established learning objectives and standards.
- Obtain student feedback and document outcomes and review and/or submit student records \
- May administer Pilot written, oral, practical, flight and simulation student assessments and also develop training curriculum and materials.
- Maintain a strong customer focus while balancing existing capability, flight safety and project requirements.
Experience/Qualifications
Essential:
- Remote Pilot Licence (RePL), Private Pilot Licence (PPL) and passed CASA Instrument Rating Examination (IREX).
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
- Demonstratable operational and instructional experience.
- Demonstrated RPAS Systems knowledge (air vehicle, ground control stations, launch/recovery, mission planning and ground support equipment).
- Practical maintenance knowledge - procedures, tools, troubleshooting techniques and standards.
- Proficiency in crew resource management, aeronautical decision-making (ADM), weight and balance, navigation meteorology, flight planning and regulatory requirements.
- Information Technology skills relevant to the role including application, hardware and networking.
- Valid Australian Manual C (Open) driver's licence.
- Willingness and ability to travel and operate in remote domestic and international locations for extended deployments (up to 4 months per deployment as required).
Desirable
- Aviation Maintenance qualification (e.g., Aircraft Maintenance Engineer or Aeroskills certificate).
- Diploma in Training Design and Development and/or experience as an Instructional Designer.
- Platform-specific qualifications or type endorsements (e.g. ScanEagle, ScanEagle2, Integrator, CT220).
- Previous experience in international deployments and working with foreign civil aviation authorities.
- Prior exposure to Defence contracting environments and awareness of Defence security protocols.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements
- Able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance
- You may require a Foreign Work Authorisation (FWA) in order to perform this role. This is not a requirement set or determined by Boeing but by the Department of Defence under laws issued in 2024. Please refer to the Department of Defence website to understand these requirements.
