The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Alcohol and Other Drugs service offers free, non-judgmental services and treatments for drug and/or alcohol use, including information and support for families. Our service offers specialist drug and alcohol doctors, nurses and allied health staff who respect the client's right to choose from a range of treatments offered with our services underpinned by a philosophy of harm reduction.

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced and motivated professional to step into a leadership role within the NBMLHD Forensic Drug & Alcohol Team. This team plays a vital role in delivering specialised services that support individuals involved in the justice system, including the Magistrates Early Referral into Treatment (MERIT) and Drug Court programs across the Local Health District.

As the Team Leader, you will provide strong front-line operational leadership while contributing to the ongoing development and enhancement of the service. You will be an integral member of the multidisciplinary leadership team and will play a key role in driving the implementation of strategic priorities, including the “to excellence and beyond” framework and other service improvement initiatives.

What you will bring to the role

Tertiary qualifications and professional registration/membership as follows: (a) Occupational Therapy – minimum Bachelor Degree and general registration with AHPRA; or (b) Social Work – minimum Bachelor Degree and eligibility for membership of AASW; or (c) Senior Psychologist - a four year degree in psychology and general registration with AHPRA; or (d) Clinical/Forensic Psychologist - Masters or Doctoral degree in Clinical or Forensic Psychology, full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia and endorsement or working towards endorsement as a clinical or forensic psychologist (as appropriate to postgraduate qualification); or (e) Bachelor Degree in Counselling and eligibility for membership of PACFA or ACA.
Demonstrated understanding of current principles, policies and practices of health service delivery relevant to the area of Drug & Alcohol.
Extensive clinical experience working, for at least 5 years, in a drug & alcohol service or relevant area and awareness of the MERIT and Drug Court Programs.
Demonstrated experience in frontline leadership including developing and implementing programs and new services within timeframes, establishing referral pathways, communicating effectively with a range of service providers, promoting system change and delivering outcomes.
Demonstrated experience in leading and facilitating change management processes.
Demonstrated experience including the ability to work collaboratively with patients when developing and reviewing care plans, conflict resolution skills, advocacy and negotiation skills and escalation of issues to line managers.
Demonstrated experience with using advanced reasoning skills including the preparation of high quality written and oral reports. This includes experience with using patient based electronic record systems and office-based computer applications.
Current driver’s license (NSW eligibility) and the willingness to travel for work purposes.
