## Other Spatial Scientist
## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Other Spatial Scientist to join our team and contribute to a broad range of spatial data projects spanning surveying, mapping, geographic information systems, and land information management. This role is well suited to a professional with a strong foundation in spatial science who can apply technical expertise to gather, analyse, and interpret location-based data across diverse environments. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across both fieldwork and office-based settings, collaborating with technical teams and stakeholders to deliver accurate, meaningful spatial outputs. You will bring analytical rigour, sound professional judgement, and a commitment to producing high-quality geospatial products and services.
## Key Responsibilities
- Determine the precise position of points of interest on the earth's surface, including marine environments, and prepare final product data in accurate digital formats suitable for downstream use
- Compile, evaluate, and maintain spatial information using a wide range of digital and graphical source materials, including aerial photographs, satellite imagery, survey documents, existing maps, historical data, and statistical records
- Analyse and interpret spatial datasets to design and produce maps, graphs, plans, drawings, and three-dimensional models using geographic information systems and related technologies
- Supervise the preparation and quality assurance of plans, maps, charts, and drawings to provide clear pictorial representations of spatial data, and manage spatial information systems accordingly
- Undertake research and development activities related to surveying methodologies, photogrammetric measurement systems, cadastral systems, and land information systems
- Plan and design land subdivision projects, including negotiating technical requirements and project parameters with local government bodies and relevant authorities
- Prepare site plans and survey reports required for conveyancing, land ownership matters, and property transactions in compliance with relevant legislation and codes of practice
- Advise other scientists, engineers, planners, and relevant professionals on the technical requirements of surveying, mapping, and spatial information systems
- Develop, test, and trial new applications and workflows for use within geographic information systems, contributing to continuous improvement in spatial data capabilities
- Compile and evaluate data, interpret applicable codes of practice and industry standards, and produce clear written reports concerning survey measurement, land use, and tenure
- Supervise and co-ordinate the work of surveying or spatial science technicians, providing technical guidance and overseeing the production and reproduction of geographic products
- Contribute to project planning, stakeholder engagement, and the integration of spatial science outputs into broader organisational or client-facing deliverables
