Primary objective
This position is to support the Special Education Teacher to liaise with key stakeholders within the Humpty Doo Primary School community
and implement strategies to support student inclusion with the aim of improved student outcomes. This may also require the occupant to
deliver professional administrative support as directed by the Business Manager or Principal and assist in the classroom with students with
multiple needs as directed by staff in the classroom and leadership team.
Context statement
Humpty Doo Primary School is located in Darwin’s rural area. The school is a large primary school with an enrolment of approximately
450 students, ranging from Preschool to Year 6. The All Stars is a Special Education Centre on site that caters for students with moderate
to severe intellectual disability or multiple disabilities with high support needs. The student population reflects the diversity of our
community with 25% identifying as Indigenous, 13% as English as a Second Language/Dialect and 50% are identified as Students With
Disability. The school has a strong focus on wellbeing and embeds the Berry Street Education Model within teaching and learning
programs. The school adopts collaborative planning and implements a science of learning approach, including explicit instruction, across
all curriculum areas and sectors of the school.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Follow direction from school staff, school and department policies and procedures at all times, with the aim to ensure the safety of

students, self, and staff.
2. Develop and effectively maintain appropriate working relationships with students with disability, families and work colleagues whilst

maintaining confidentiality.
3. Actively support the planning, preparation, implementation and assessment of individualised educational adjustment programs and

support plans for students with additional needs across the school, including tier 2 and 3 interventions.
4. Manage and complete a range of administrative tasks including the entry of Nationally Consistent Collection of Data in SAIS for students

with a disability, SAMS and Xuno entry, word processing, data entry, photocopying, bookbinding, laminating, classroom displays, all in a
timely manner.

5. Participate in classroom activities, outdoor activities, playgroup duties and excursions. Assist with the supervision of students at recess
and lunch as required.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Ability to work with Primary aged students (preschool to Year 6) including students with special needs and challenging behaviours, in a

cross-cultural environment.
2. Proven ability to communicate effectively with children who have a diverse range of disabilities with patience, empathy, flexibility and

with a commitment to improving learning outcomes.
3. Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced school environment, such as meeting timeframes, passing on factual information

clearly, and representing the school to the parents, families, and community.
4. Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively and communicating effectively to support productive partnerships.
5. Demonstrated experience in undertaking a range of administrative tasks including database systems such as SAIS, SAMS and Xuno, or

ability to pick up quickly.
