About Border Rock Walls

Border Rock Walls is a specialist dry stack rock wall construction business operating across the Tweed Coast and South East Queensland. We build high-quality boulder and rock retaining walls for residential, rural, and civil clients — using natural stone ranging from 200mm to 1200mm.

We are a skilled, tight-knit team who take genuine pride in the craft of dry stack construction. Our crew is friendly, highly skilled, and easy to work with. We hold ourselves to a high standard on every job — from site setup through to final finish.

The Role

We are looking for a specialist dry stack rock wall builder who can hit the ground running. This is a hands-on, full-scope role — from initial setout through to drainage, geofabric installation, compaction, and final boulder placement.
You will operate an excavator on site, direct a labourer, and take ownership of your work from start to finish. This is not a general construction role. We are looking for someone who has built boulder retaining walls specifically, understands dry stack technique, and brings the experience to back it up.
This role reports directly to Mick (Company Director) or the site supervisor on larger jobs.

Key Responsibilities

Full-scope dry stack rock wall construction — setout, drainage, geofabric, compaction, and boulder placement
Excavator operation on site across varying terrain and access conditions
Directing and supervising one labourer per day on site
Safe and efficient rock handling — boulders ranging from 200mm to 1200mm
Site readiness and preparation prior to wall construction
Wet weather work including coordinating and managing rock deliveries
Maintaining quality standards consistent with Border Rock Walls' specifications
Completing work safely and in compliance with WHS requirements at all times
Communicating clearly with the Director or site supervisor on progress, issues, and material needs

Mandatory Requirements

Candidates must meet all of the following to be considered. Applications that do not demonstrate each of these requirements will not progress.

Licences & Tickets

Heavy Rigid (HR) Truck Licence — current and unrestricted
Excavator Ticket (Plant Operator Certificate) — current
Bobcat Ticket — current
White Card (Construction Induction Card) — current

Experience

Minimum 3 years of hands-on, specialist dry stack boulder retaining wall construction
Demonstrated experience with boulders 200mm–1200mm in size
Full-scope capability: setout, drainage, geofabric, compaction, and rock placement
Excavator operation experience in a construction environment

Right to Work

Full, unrestricted right to work in Australia — visa sponsorship is not offered

Working Conditions

Monday to Friday, 6:30am – 3:00pm
Day travel across Tweed NSW and SEQ — no overnight travel
Wet weather does not stop work — rock deliveries and site preparation continue in wet conditions
Work involves operating heavy plant, manual handling of large boulders, and working on varying terrain
Appropriate PPE required on all sites at all times

Probationary Period

This role commences with a 3-month probationary period, with the opportunity to transition to permanent full-time employment upon successful completion. During this period, performance will be assessed against quality of work, reliability, safety compliance, and teamwork.
