About the Roles
We currently have two, ongoing Director, Legal opportunities leading two teams in the Legal Branch of The Cabinet Office – the Elections, Inquires and Constitutional Law Team and the Integrity, Accountability and Parliament Team.
In the same branch, we also have one temporary Director, Legal, opportunity to lead the Royal Commission (Antisemitism and Social Cohesion) Team for a period up to 30 June 2027.
The Director, Legal is a senior leadership role reporting to the Executive Director, Legal, providing authoritative legal advice on complex, high-profile matters. You will lead the delivery of strategic legal advice on legislative proposals, policy issues and matters progressing to Cabinet and its committees, ensuring high-quality, timely and well-informed decision-making at the centre of government.
This role plays a critical part in shaping the Government’s forward agenda. You will drive innovative policy and legislative reform, address complex and sensitive issues across portfolios and coordinate efforts to deliver key Government priorities. Legal expertise will be highly valued, particularly in relation to government integrity, parliamentary processes, elections, inquiries and constitutional and administrative law.

We're Looking For:
- Legal Expertise & Judgement: A seasoned legal professional with the ability to exercise sound judgement across complex legal, legislative and policy issues, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy, integrity and accountability. Admission (or eligibility for admission) to the Supreme Court of NSW is essential, together with strong organisational capability and the ability to deliver in high-pressure, high-volume environments.

Stakeholder Engagement & Customer Focus: Proven ability to deliver responsive, high-quality services to senior stakeholders, navigating sensitive and high-profile matters with professionalism, discretion and sound judgement.

Communication Excellence: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex issues into clear, concise and authoritative advice within tight timeframes.

Collaboration, Influence & Leadership: A credible and collaborative leader with demonstrated ability to influence, negotiate and build trusted relationships across government. You will lead teams and workstreams, manage risk and deliver outcomes in complex and dynamic environments.

Adaptability & Drive: Demonstrates agility, resilience and a strong drive for results, with the ability to respond effectively in fast-paced, evolving and often ambiguous environments.
