Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-Operative – Health and Wellbeing Services now has the following vacancy at our Shepparton Office:

Support Worker - Public Intoxication Response

Casual | Rostered & On-Call Shifts (Thursday–Sunday)

This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

About the Role

The Public Intoxication Response Support Worker provides respectful, trauma-informed, and culturally safe support to individuals affected by alcohol-related intoxication in public spaces. The role involves assertive outreach, safe transportation, monitoring clients within Rumbalara’s Sobering Service, de-escalating challenging situations, and connecting individuals with appropriate health, housing, and community supports using a harm minimisation approach.

About You

Qualifications and Registrations:

Relevant qualifications (e.g., alcohol and other drugs, community development, social work) is desirable.

Knowledge and skills:

Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and maintaining culturally safe practice while addressing systemic racism and unconscious bias.
Demonstrated ability to provide harm reduction interventions and support people experiencing intoxication, crisis, trauma, or challenging behaviours.
Ability to work calmly and confidently both independently and within a multidisciplinary team including AOD, Mental Health, peer workers, and partner agencies.
Strong understanding of crisis response strategies including managing distress, overdose, panic attacks, suicidal behaviours, and psychotic episodes.
Ability to work within a mixed service delivery model including rostered shifts and on-call requirements as needed.
