About the role
The General Manager, Homes & Lifestyle is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for driving the growth, performance and future direction of Are Media’s Homes & Lifestyle content vertical. Spanning seven of Australia’s most iconic and trusted brands - The Australian Women’s Weekly, Better Homes and Gardens, Australian House & Garden, Country Style, Bounty Parents, Home Beautiful and Belle - this portfolio reaches millions of Australians and sits at the heart of the company’s success.
This is a dynamic, commercially focused role where you will lead a high-performing team to unlock new opportunities for growth across a diverse revenue mix, including circulation, subscriptions, advertising, and a rapidly expanding content commerce offering spanning affiliate and partnership channels. A key priority will be accelerating the growth of direct, owned audiences through data-led acquisition and retention strategies, strengthening first-party relationships that fuel both recurring revenue and long-term brand value.
With full accountability for the P&L, you will set the pace for sustainable growth, making smart investment decisions, championing innovation, and fostering strong cross-functional collaboration. You will play a critical role in evolving the portfolio, diversifying revenue streams, and building new commercial opportunities to ensure these market-leading brands continue to thrive in a rapidly changing media landscape.
What you'll do
Working closely with editorial, commercial, and audience teams, you will:
- Shape and deliver a bold content and revenue strategy across the Homes & Lifestyle portfolio, aligning brand, audience and commercial priorities
- Create and scale new revenue streams, from direct-to-consumer products and membership models to high-impact brand partnerships
- Champion digital innovation, accelerating audience growth through compelling subscription propositions, new content formats and platform expansion
- Build and lead a high-performing, cross-functional team of editors, producers and commercial specialists, fostering a culture of ambition, collaboration and excellence
- Take full ownership of the P&L, driving disciplined budget management and consistently delivering against revenue and margin targets
What we’re looking for
- A proven senior leader with experience in media, publishing or content-driven businesses, known for setting direction and delivering results
- Deep commercial capability, with a strong track record of building and scaling direct-to-consumer revenue streams, including subscriptions, memberships and digital products
- A growth mindset, with demonstrated success expanding audiences and driving revenue in a fast-paced, multi-platform environment
- Sharp financial acumen, with hands-on experience owning and optimising P&L performance
- An influential, collaborative leader who can align editorial and commercial teams to a shared vision and execute at scale
- A digital change-maker, experienced in transforming established brands through innovation, experimentation and continuous iteration
