About the role
The General Manager, Homes & Lifestyle is responsible for the leadership, growth and commercial performance of Are Media’s Homes & Lifestyle content vertical. This portfolio encompasses seven of Australia’s most trusted and loved brands: The Australian Women's Weekly, Better Homes and Gardens, Australian House & Garden, Country Style, Bounty Parents, Home Beautiful and Belle.
The portfolio generates revenue through a diversified mix of circulation, subscriptions, advertising, content commerce (including affiliate and coupon partnerships), and other direct-to-consumer products. Cultivating the growth of direct, owned audiences through data-informed acquisition and retention strategies is central to the role, building first party relationships that underpin both recurring reader revenue and the advertising and commerce base.
With accountability for the full profit and loss performance of the Homes & Lifestyle vertical, the General Manager will drive sustainable growth by investing our resources effectively, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and delivering against strategic and financial objectives including diversification and development of new revenue streams, ensuring the long-term success of Are Media’s market-leading brands.
What you'll do
Working closely with editorial, commercial, and audience teams, you will:
- Set and execute the content and revenue strategy across the Homes & Lifestyle title portfolio
- Identify and build new revenue streams, including direct-to-consumer products, membership models, and brand partnerships
- Drive digital innovation across audience subscription propositions, new content formats, and platform expansion
- Lead and develop a high-performing, cross-functional team of editors, producers, and commercial specialists
- Own P&L responsibility, managing budgets and delivering against revenue and margin targets
What we’re looking for
- Proven senior leadership experience within media, publishing, or content businesses
- Demonstrated success building direct-to-consumer revenue, including subscriptions, membership, or digital product development
- A track record of growing audiences and commercial revenue in a multi-platform environment
- Financial acumen with direct P&L ownership experience
- The ability to lead through influence across editorial and commercial functions at Are Media's scale
- Experience driving digital transformation within an established media brand, with a bias toward testing and iteration
