Assist in the creation of a culturally strong and locally based 'virtual' Koorie Academy of Excellence (KAE) that supports KAE students and their families to engage throughout the students' secondary education and to explore future pathways.

About the Role

This role is identified as available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants only. Confirmation of the Indigenous status of applicants may be requested.

The primary responsibilities of the Koorie Academy of Excellence Liaison Officer is to:

Support the development and delivery of a structured Koorie Academy of Excellence (KAE) program based on connection to culture, leadership, academic strength and school engagement, for Koorie students in years 7 to 12.
Advocate for and assist KAE students to identify their career passions and achieve their aspirations by supporting students to complete Year 12 and transition successfully into a further study pathway of their choice.
Develop KAE students' leadership opportunities and capabilities through cultural and leadership activities designed to support students to become leaders and role models in their schools, communities and beyond.
Work with the students' schools and the Department's Koorie Education Workforce to ensure individual education plans and career action plans for KAE students are in place and progress is documented.
Develop and maintain partnerships within the cross-disciplinary Area team, with KAE students, their families, the Koorie community, government departments, community service providers and tertiary institutions to support the development and delivery of programs and activities within the KAE program.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

Relevant tertiary qualification in a related discipline

About the Division

Schools and Regional Services comprises 17 Areas within four regions across the state, as well as five central Divisions. The responsibilities of Schools and Regional Services include:

service delivery including performance, contract management, funding delivery and acquittal
program implementation including detailed implementation planning and delivery
local area engagement, advice, support and partnerships
workforce capability development, professional practice leadership and delivery
emergency management including critical incident response
supporting strong regional partnerships with early childhood services, schools and other education providers to deliver high-quality services and outcomes with a 0-18 focus.

The regional model is designed to:

connect between central government policy and the delivery of high quality services to Victorians
drive outcomes across all stages of learning through expert advice and support
connect with families, service providers, schools and communities
lead, collaborate and partner at a local level to overcome social and economic challenges facing our communities, towns and cities
deliver health, wellbeing and support services to children, young people and their families to assist them in their learning and development
improve connectedness and transitions between important points in a child's life - such as between early childhood, kindergarten, school and tertiary education
assist and support children and young people who are vulnerable, disengaged, and those with disabilities or challenging behaviour.

About the Department

The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
