Tell me about this role
This position brings together multiple technical streams including system support, software development and upgrades, system and software administration, project management, networking, and cyber accreditation, compliance and governance to ensure that systems are integrated, compliant, and operationally ready.
You will support the development, delivery, sustainment and upgrade of 4SQN mission systems, networking and data links, supporting both operations and capability development including Test and Evaluation (T&E) activities. The role involves close collaboration with Defence Stakeholders and industry partners.
A core part of the role is enabling users to operate effectively. This includes delivering hands-on training and mentorship to small groups of skilled personnel. This may involve developing training materials and user guides suitable for use in operational environments.
This full-time position is based at Williamtown, near Newcastle.
Flexible or remote arrangements may be considered.
Required Security Clearance Level: Negative Vetting Level 2 (NV2)
What will I be doing day to day?
- Act as the primary point of contact for coordinating activities across software, networking, system administration, project management, cyber and capability development
- Provide operational ICT support to the 4SQN ICT fleet, ensuring systems are integrated, interoperable, available and mission ready
- Work with Defence, industry and technical teams to support development, upgrades, integration, sustainment and T&E activities
- Deliver small group training sessions and on-the-job mentorship to skilled users
- Deliver user guides, reference material and briefing packs for operational users
- Support governance, compliance and accreditation activities (including ATO)
- Assist with T&E activities, including preparation, execution and follow-up actions
- Coordinate vendor support, and capability development and sustainment, in collaboration with multiple acquisition and sustainment organisations
- Manage and track defects and contribute to requirements and capability development
- Provide and support governance of cryptographic material, and coordinate technical maintenance
What sort of skills do I need?
- Experience in ICT, with a strong focus on software, systems integration, T&E, and software and network engineering in complex or secure environments
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (Engineering, IT, Computer Science) or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated ability to bring together multiple technical streams (software, systems, networks, cyber, project management) into cohesive outcomes
- Experience with ICT acquisition and sustainment, system integration and assurance, compliance and lifecycle management
- Working knowledge of accreditation processes, including ATO and relevant standards (e.g. MIL-STD)
- Experience with Defence acquisition and sustainment, and governance frameworks (e.g. CASG BMS)
- Experience supporting T&E, sustainment and capability delivery activities
- Experience working with secure systems, including handling cryptographic material
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to deliver project documentation, training, and clear technical/user advice and documentation
