About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and capable Systems Engineer to support the delivery of complex Defence capability within a structured and high-assurance environment.
This role is responsible for leading systems engineering activities across assigned systems, with a strong focus on integration, safety, compliance, and assurance. You will operate within an integrated workforce and engage with Defence stakeholders and industry partners to ensure capability is delivered in accordance with engineering governance frameworks.
This position is suited to engineers with strong Defence systems engineering experience who are looking to step into a role with greater technical authority and leadership responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate systems engineering activities across assigned systems
- Ensure delivery aligns with safety, regulatory compliance, and fitness-for-service requirements
- Provide governance and oversight of contractor engineering outputs, including:
- Requirements and design artefacts
- Configuration baselines
- Test and evaluation activities
- System integration and certification
- Support system-level activities including:
- System security (including cyber considerations)
- Quality management
- Technical risk and systems safety
- Provide engineering guidance to senior stakeholders and leadership
- Act as a key engineering interface across integrated teams and stakeholders
- Support preparation and participation in:
- Configuration Control Boards (CCBs)
- Engineering Review Boards (ERBs)
- Identify, assess, and communicate engineering risks and issues
- Conduct and support engineering assurance and audit activities
- Review contractor deliverables and ensure alignment with:
- Approved requirements
- Legislative and regulatory frameworks
- Contribute to technical authority functions including:
- Design acceptance activities
- Change management and change request development
- Provide mentoring and guidance within the engineering team
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace or similar)
- Recognised under the Washington Accord
- Demonstrated experience in systems engineering within Defence or regulated environments
- Strong understanding of:
- Engineering governance frameworks
- Safety, assurance, and certification processes
- Integration and test activities
- Experience managing:
- Engineering artefacts
- Configuration control
- Technical risk
Capabilities
- Ability to work under broad direction within structured Defence environments
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
- Ability to operate at a system-level perspective
- Strong communication skills with the ability to brief senior stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and guidance
Additional Requirements
- Australian Citizenship required
- Must hold an NV1 AGSVA Defence security clearance
- Candidates must be ACT-based and available to work on-site
- Completion of a citizenship declaration will be required as part of the process
