About the role
We are seeking a Fitter to join our Orchard Workshop at our Pecan farm near Moree at Pallamallawa, NSW.
The position entails participation as a team member in the workshop team, to ensure efficient maintenance, of all plant and equipment. Your duties are to be carried out to a high standard to facilitate, the efficient and smooth operation of SW Orchards. Maintenance of all processing equipment, spraying equipment, all pruning equipment, all harvesting equipment, all mowing plant, all farming plant, all farming equipment in general.
The duties include:
- Checking farming plant and equipment to determine maintenance requirements.
- Performing operational maintenance of machines, and overhauling and repairing mechanical parts where required refer repairs to diesel mechanic
- Fault finding and repairs to farm machinery and equipment
- Fabricate and fit metal parts to effect repairs on plant and equipment used on the orchard
- Study drawing and specifications provided by suppliers to fabricate and assemble metal parts to repair farm plant and equipment
- Checking fabricated and assembled metal parts for accuracy, clearance and fit using precision measuring instruments
- Pre-season maintenance of cleaning plant
- Pre-season maintenance of harvest equipment
- To be on call, as required, to carry out maintenance on plant involved in shift work (e.g. irrigation and foliar spraying)
- Supervision of staff as maybe required i.e. Contractors, cleaning plant staff and any other staff as directed
- To comply with the company’s risk management programme
Essential Key Requirements:
- Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Fitting, fitter and turner
- At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role working on farm machinery
- Well-developed fitting and/or mechanical skills obtained in a workshop environment
- Manual handling skills
- Have a sound mechanical aptitude and knowledge.
- Experience operating manual lathes and welding equipment is essential.
- Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility with job tasks.
- The ability to participate in ongoing training and be open to new ideas.
- Focus on safety and quality
- Ability to work in a team environment

- Previous experience in an agricultural environment

What You Should Know About Our Operations
Our business is widespread, growing walnuts, almonds and bees in the Riverina Region in New South Wales, pecans in Moree and macadamias, avocados and mangoes in Bundaberg, Queensland.
Off the paddock, we operate nut processing and packing facilities in Leeton, Toowoomba and Bundaberg as well as fruit packing and processing in Bundaberg. In addition, our shared services teams (Finance, Sales, ESG, Safety and People & Culture) are located across all of our sites as well as the Brisbane, Melbourne and Griffith offices.
