The Australian Army Telecommunications Technician pathway, known in-service as Telecommunications Network Engineering, is a full-time technical role for people interested in IT, networking, telecommunications, cyber-enabled systems, electronics, cabling, routers, switches, radio systems and hands-on technical problem-solving.
You will receive paid military and employment training, with opportunities to develop practical skills that go beyond a standard office IT role.
WHAT YOU COULD WORK WITH
As a Telecommunications Network Engineering soldier, you may work with:- Voice and data switching equipment- Data routers and network equipment- Satellite and radio bearer systems- Line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight communications- Encryption devices- Cable systems- Telephony switches and terminals- Field power generation and distribution systems- Hand tools, test equipment, vehicles and trailers
TRAINING AND CAREER PATHWAY
This pathway can develop skills across:- Telecommunications cabling- Bearer systems- Network core operations- Telecommunications network maintenance- Network fault-finding and optimisation- Communications equipment installation and configuration- Secure communications and information assurance- Field-deployable ICT and communications networks
Career progression can take you from Telecommunications Network Signaller through to Team Leader, Supervisor, Planner, Manager and senior Telecommunications Network Engineer roles.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
If you already have relevant ICT, networking, telecommunications, cabling or technical qualifications, Recognition of Prior Learning may be considered during the recruitment process.
Existing AQF Level 3 or higher ICT qualifications may support assessment for Telecommunications Technology Qualification recognition.
