What's the role?
Body+Soul , Australia’s leading health, wellness and lifestyle brand, is looking for a talented News Writer to join our editorial team. Reaching millions across our national weekend print products ( The Sunday Telegraph , Sunday Herald Sun , Sunday Mail , and Sunday Tasmanian ), digital, and social platforms, Body+Soul is a trusted voice setting the national health agenda. We are searching for a smart, proactive journalist with strong newsroom experience and deep industry networks to break stories, drive conversation, and shape the health and wellness narrative.
Reporting to the Deputy Content Director, the News Writer is responsible for content creation across print, digital, and social channels. In this multi-platform role, you will write weekly print features, daily digital articles, and assist in creating high-performing social video content designed to engage and grow our national audience.
The ideal candidate brings strong ideation, a rigorous eye for detail, and the agility to navigate a fast-paced media environment while maintaining the brand's elevated tone of voice under tight deadlines.
Key responsibilities:
Research and produce timely, news-based content across Body+Soul’s print, digital, and social platforms.
Build and maintain relationships with key industry contacts, experts, talent, and PRs to secure exclusives, breaking news, and unique interviews.
Daily monitoring of national and international news to pitch trending stories relevant to a mass consumer audience.
Maintain a pipeline of strong, news-led content across key pillars, including physical and mental health, wellness, fitness, nutrition, sex, and relationships.
Interview sources and talent to craft smart, service-driven journalism with a positive, engaging tone.
Scour online and offline channels daily for fresh ideas, leads, and cover stories with a strong news hook.
Collaborate with the Digital Editor, Audience Producer, and Video Producer to create high-performing vertical video content.
Who are you?
A journalist with a passion for health, wellness, and lifestyle, backed by a minimum of three years' experience in a fast-paced digital media or publishing environment.
An exceptional writer who files clean, accurate, and high-quality copy on tight turnarounds with an instinct for clever, attention-grabbing headlines.
Connected within the health, wellness, and fitness space, ideally with a list of contacts, PRs, and talent.
Highly organized, proactive, and capable of working independently under daily and weekly deadline pressure.
An agile thinker with a finely tuned news sense, able to spot emerging breakthroughs and translate complex topics into engaging content across multiple platforms.
