Gourmet Sandwich Chef / Food Product Development Chef

Location: Sandwich Chefs – Orion Springfield Central, QLD
Hours: 7:00 AM – 10:00 AM, Monday to Sunday
Employment: Casual / Part-Time
Pay: Premium hourly rate for the right candidate

About the Role

We are looking for an exceptionally talented and creative Gourmet Sandwich Chef to join our team at Sandwich Chefs, Orion Springfield Central.

This is NOT a standard sandwich-making position.

We are looking for someone who has a genuine passion for creating premium, gourmet sandwiches that look exceptional, taste outstanding and stand out from ordinary café and fast-food sandwiches.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take ownership of our sandwich range and help us develop products that customers will notice and come back for.

Key Responsibilities

Create and prepare gourmet, premium-quality sandwiches with exceptional presentation.
Develop new sandwich recipes, fillings, sauces and flavour combinations.
Improve the appearance and presentation of our premade sandwich range.
Create sandwiches that look premium both whole and when cut/displayed.
Experiment with different breads, proteins, cheeses, vegetables, sauces and other quality ingredients.
Balance taste, presentation, portion size and food cost.
Develop commercially viable recipes that can be consistently reproduced by the wider team.
Train other staff in sandwich preparation, presentation and portion control.
Maintain exceptionally high standards of food quality, hygiene and cleanliness.
Assist with preparing the front-of-house display and ensuring products look highly appealing.
Identify opportunities to improve our current menu and introduce new products.
Work with management to test, cost and launch new sandwich products.

Experience We Are Looking For

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:

Gourmet cafés
Premium delis
Artisan bakeries
High-end food preparation
Modern Australian or contemporary hospitality
Sandwich or food product development
Catering and premium food production

Subway Experience Is Not Relevant

Please note: Previous Subway experience is NOT relevant for this position.

We are specifically looking for someone who understands gourmet sandwich preparation, creativity, presentation and premium food development.

Our focus is not on simply assembling sandwiches quickly from a set formula. We want someone who can create something genuinely different, premium and visually impressive.

Front-of-House Experience — Bonus

Front-of-house experience is a strong advantage.

If you are confident dealing with customers, explaining products, making recommendations and assisting with front-of-house operations, this will be highly valued.

The Ideal Candidate

You should be:

Creative and passionate about food
Highly focused on presentation and detail
Confident creating new flavour combinations
Experienced in premium/gourmet food preparation
Able to work independently
Reliable and punctual
Able to consistently maintain high standards
Commercially minded and conscious of food costs and wastage
Comfortable training other team members
Available consistently from 7:00 AM – 10:00 AM or longer hours if you can work on other section in the store.

Trial Requirement

The right candidates will initially be invited to attend a paid trial.

The trial will allow us to see your creativity, preparation skills, presentation, speed, cleanliness and ability to produce a genuinely premium sandwich.

We are much more interested in what you can create than simply what is written on your resume.
