About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Manager Planning to lead strategic fire planning, communications and provide high-level advice within the Fire and Incident Operations Branch.

The Manager Planning leads the Planning Unit within the NPWS Fire and Incident Operations Branch The role is responsible for a defined portfolio of functions relating to fire and incident management including policy, planning and strategy; cultural fire coordination; operational improvement; performance reporting and data analysis; and communications for internal and external stakeholders. It also provides high-level strategic advice to strengthen statewide fire and incident management capability. Working closely with operational managers, internal teams and partner agencies, the role ensures these functions are coordinated, practical and aligned to NPWS priorities for effective and responsive fire and incident management across NSW national parks.

About You

We are looking for a confident strategic leader who can translate complex operational issues into clear plans, practical advice and well-targeted communications. You will bring strong capability in policy development, program coordination, data-informed reporting and the preparation of high-quality briefings, correspondence and executive advice. Success in the role will require sound judgement, attention to detail and the ability to connect operational priorities with broader organisational, public safety and environmental outcomes.

You will be an effective people leader who can guide a multidisciplinary team, build trust across dispersed work groups and maintain productive relationships with senior leaders, operational managers and partner agencies. The role calls for a collaborative and calm approach, strong communication and influencing skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities while supporting a constructive, inclusive and high-performing team culture.

Essential Requirements

Extensive experience and a high level of expertise in fire and incident management at a state-wide level.
Demonstrated knowledge of the statutory and operational environment for fire and incident management in NSW, and its relationship to natural and cultural heritage management in national parks and other lands.
Current Australian Drivers licence, and a willingness to fly in light aircraft.
