About the Role

Are you a highly organised events professional who thrives on bringing exceptional events to life?

We are seeking an experienced and energetic Conference & Events Operations Manager to lead the delivery of our diverse conference, meeting, wedding, and events portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of event operations, lead a passionate team, and play a key role in creating memorable experiences for our guests and clients.

Working closely with Sales, Food & Beverage, Front Office, Housekeeping, and Maintenance, you'll ensure every event is flawlessly executed from planning through to delivery. No two days will be the same, and you'll be at the centre of some of Townsville's most exciting events.

What You'll Be Doing

As Conference & Events Operations Manager, you'll be the driving force behind the successful delivery of every event held at Mercure Townsville. From large conferences and corporate meetings to weddings, gala dinners and social celebrations, you'll ensure every detail is executed to the highest standard.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

· Leading the planning, coordination, and operational delivery of all conferences, meetings, weddings, and special events.

· Acting as the primary operational contact for clients, ensuring their vision is brought to life and expectations are exceeded.

· Working closely with the Sales team to ensure a seamless handover from event confirmation through to execution.

· Coordinating with Food & Beverage, Front Office, Housekeeping, and Maintenance teams to ensure every event runs smoothly.

· Managing event setups, room configurations, audio visual requirements, and operational logistics.

· Leading, coaching, and motivating event and service teams to deliver exceptional guest experiences.

· Being present during key events to oversee operations, resolve issues quickly, and ensure flawless execution.

· Monitoring event quality, guest feedback, and service standards, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

· Managing event schedules, staffing requirements, and operational resources to maximise efficiency and service delivery.

· Driving revenue opportunities through upselling, enhancements, and exceptional client relationship management.

· Maintaining accurate event documentation, floor plans, run sheets, and operational procedures.

· Reviewing event performance, analysing results, and identifying opportunities to improve profitability and guest satisfaction.

· Contributing to the growth of Mercure Townsville's reputation as a leading conference and events destination in North Queensland.

What You'll Bring

You are a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences.

You'll ideally have:

· 3+ years' experience or relevant Diploma level skills in conference and events management within hotels, resorts, or hospitality venues.

· Outstanding organisational and project management skills

· A strong focus on client service and event excellence

· Proven experience leading teams and coordinating multiple stakeholders

· Strong commercial acumen with experience managing event budgets and driving revenue opportunities

· The ability to remain calm, adaptable, and solutions-focused under pressure

· Excellent communication skills and a collaborative leadership style
