The opportunity
We’re looking for innovative and future-focused cadets who value teamwork and are committed to learning the trade of surveying. While working at the City of Mandurah, you will develop technical skills in design, surveying and construction engineering through on-the-job training.
The cadetship is a full-time fixed-term contract for a period of four years. You will study part-time at TAFE (currently North Metropolitan TAFE Perth Campus) to obtain a Certificate IV in Surveying and Spatial Information Services (Surveying) and a Diploma of Surveying.
What you’ll do:
- Develop skills and knowledge required to undertake surveying and engineering duties
- Assist surveyors in general surveying duties
- Use CAD Software to produce drawings
- Use survey equipment such as GPS’s, Total Stations and Level’s
- Collect, record and validate detailed survey information
- Learn surveying and measurement skills
- General drafting duties, manual or computer aided
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Successful completion of Year 12 or ATAR (with passes in Mathematics (Calculus), English, Physics and Chemistry) and/or Certificate III in Surveying and Spatial Information Services
- Current C class national drivers’ licence
- Current Recreational Skippers Ticket (RST)
- Computer literate
- High level of written and oral communication skills with people at all levels
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Organised with the ability to meet required deadlines
- Keen interest in developing skills, knowledge and experience in the delivery of surveying services
- Interest and commitment to undertake a qualification in surveying
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively within a team environment
- Ability to follow instructions

- The salary for this role commences at the age-related step, with potential for movement within the range based on demonstrated skills and experience. Incremental progression typically occurs at the conclusion of each 12-month period, in accordance with the Industrial Agreement.
