Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.
Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.
Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.
Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.
Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.
The Transition and Pathways Leader leads and manages a whole school approach to transition and pathways, supporting students to make informed decisions about their learning, career and future pathways, while building the capacity of staff across the college through the following Key Responsibility Areas:

- Work with the Student Engagement and Wellbeing Executive to contribute to the analysis and use of student data to inform the planning, implementation and evaluation of strategies that strengthen student engagement, successful transitions and pathway outcomes across the college.
- Lead the effective careers/pathways program in Years 9¿12, ensuring all students are aware of tertiary or post-schooling options, including a reliable careers counselling process and access to appropriate careers, work, training and further/higher education advice and information.
- Maintain and provide up-to-date pathway knowledge and expertise of specialised career/training options available beyond the school community and ensure continual communication and professional development for personal development group teachers, KLA leaders and curriculum leaders on pathways requirements.
- Lead and oversee transition programs for relevant year levels with the support of the Later Years Assistant Principal, including involvement in the Year 6 to 7 transition with the support of the Middle Years Campus Principal.
- Develop and promote viable pathways for senior students through Years 11 and 12 that improve parent, staff and student perceptions of career opportunities (VM focus).
- Ensure staff, parents and students from Years 9¿12 are informed about effective VCE, VM and VET programs through school community promotion, including effective leadership in the organisation of pathways information evenings for Years 9¿12 students and families, that allows students to make suitable individual choices.
- Lead the development and implementation of Years 9 and 10 Personal Development curriculum to incorporate the Careers Curriculum Framework and knowledge of pathways into VCE, VM and VET options within these programs.
- Lead the accessibility, enrolment and monitoring of VET programs for students, including ensuring an effective VET program is in place with all budget requirements met.
- Maintain well researched and analysed pathways data (e.g. accelerated VCE, VM, VET, Year 10 and exited students) and oversee an effective work experience program.
- Build and maintain strong and regular connections with external providers and the Local Learning and Employment Network, and support students at risk in Years 9¿12 in conjunction with student engagement and wellbeing leaders.
The Transition and Pathways Leader is a key member of the Student Engagement and Wellbeing Executive, contributing to a whole-school approach to supporting student engagement, transitions and pathways. The role works collaboratively with staff across the college to support students in navigating their learning journeys, future pathways and successful transitions.
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
