With more than 17 years of success in Newcastle and a growing Sydney presence, we are entering an exciting next phase of growth. We are seeking a commercially astute Senior Construction Lawyer to lead the next stage of growth of our Building & Construction practice in either Sydney or Newcastle.

Our Building & Construction Law practice has deep expertise, recognised market credibility and strong foundations for growth. We have capable lawyers in place with genuine interest and experience in this area, supported by experienced management and administrative teams.

You will work closely with founder and Managing Partner, Sam Roberts, an Accredited Specialist in Commercial Litigation with a sub-specialty in Building & Construction Law, who has played a key role in building the firm’s reputation in this space having originally authored our Security of Payment Guide which is in its 7th edition. This Guide, along with our Home Builder’s Guide to Resolving Disputes in NCAT, continue to be strong marketing tools and excellent sources of business.

We have restructured and introduced more operational support to give Sam the capacity to help our Heads grow their practices, deliver excellent client outcomes and lead their teams sustainably.

About The Role

This is not just another Senior Solicitor role. It is a leadership role.

You will lead our Building & Construction Law practice in Sydney or Newcastle, working closely with firm leadership while remaining hands-on in complex matters and client relationships.

You will:

lead and grow the Building & Construction Law practice,
advise on commercial and residential construction matters,
develop and strengthen client and referrer relationships,
oversee Security of Payment claims, adjudications and disputes,
manage litigation across NSW Courts and NCAT,
drive business development and market profile,
mentor and develop Solicitors within the team,
contribute to broader firm strategy and growth,
help shape culture, standards and future capability, and
collaborate with other practice leaders across the firm.

Fee-earning expectations are calibrated to enable sustainable leadership success.

About You

This role is likely to suit you if you:

have 8+ years PAE in Building & Construction Law and related disputes practice,
are an accomplished litigator ready for a true practice leadership role,
are already leading informally and ready for formal authority,
are commercially minded and energised by growth,
have strong client relationship skills, existing referral partners and business development capability,
are an Accredited Specialist or interested in obtaining it,
value high standards, collaboration and excellent client service, and
are ambitious for equity and long-term influence.
