About the role
With the continued growth of our firm, an opportunity has arisen for an Associate or Senior Associate to join our Newcastle office.
In this role, you will act for Commonwealth Government clients in merits review and administrative law proceedings. Your workload will include the day-to-day conduct of litigated matters in the Administrative Review Tribunal, providing advice, preparing evidence, and appearing at directions hearings, conciliations and final hearings.
This is a key role within the team. You can expect a high degree of responsibility and autonomy, including direct client contact and carriage of matters, while still working closely with an experienced Partner who will provide guidance and settle advice work. You will play an active role in supporting and mentoring junior lawyers, contributing to the continued development of a collaborative and growing practice. The team is known for its supportive, friendly culture and strong pipeline of high quality work.
We offer flexibility in how this role is structured, with both full-time and part-time candidates considered, as well as hybrid working arrangements to support work life balance.
About you
We are keen to hear from candidates with a minimum of 4 years’ post-admission experience. While experience in NDIS work or administrative law more broadly will be highly regarded, we also welcome applications from candidates with tribunal experience gained in areas such as workers’ compensation, employment law or other insurance or public law settings.
You will bring:
- Experience managing files and the confidence to take carriage of matters with a degree of autonomy
- Strong advocacy skills, including tribunal appearance experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and practical advice
- A commitment to providing high quality client service
A genuine interest in mentoring and supporting junior lawyers
-
This role will suit a lawyer who enjoys responsibility, is confident dealing directly with clients, and is looking to take the next step in their career within a growing and supportive team.
