Are you creative, great with people and naturally good at social media?
We're looking for a friendly, outgoing and creative person to join our team in a hands-on role combining social media, reception and looking after our members.
We're a small, close-knit team, and like most small businesses, we all wear a few different hats. We support each other, pitch in when something needs doing and have a lot of fun along the way. We're looking for someone who will enjoy being part of that kind of environment.
A big part of this role is taking care of our day-to-day social media. We're not looking for a marketing expert or someone with a long list of qualifications. We're looking for someone who genuinely loves social media, is naturally creative and already knows how to create great content.
You need to be able to take great photos and videos, edit a Reel, put together a Post or Carousel and, importantly, have your own ideas about what would make good content.
But this role is just as much about people.
You'll spend a lot of your time around the gym and at reception, so you need to genuinely enjoy talking to people, getting to know our members and making someone walking into the gym for the first time feel comfortable and welcome.
The Role
This is a permanent part-time position based at our gym in Mansfield.
Hours will predominantly be during our busiest periods:
- Weekday afternoons/evenings, approximately 3:00pm–8:00pm
- Friday evenings as rostered
- Saturday mornings approximately 7:00am–11:00am
- Occasional additional hours for events, competitions and other gym activities
Social Media
You'll:
- Take photos and videos during classes, training and events.
- Post multiple Stories throughout the evening.
- Create Reels, Posts and Carousels.
- Edit photos and videos using Canva, CapCut or similar.
- Come up with fresh ideas for content.
- Plan and prepare content in consultation with us.
- Help make sure our social media genuinely reflects our members, our culture and what happens inside the gym.
Reception & Member Services
You'll:
- Welcome members and visitors.
- Get to know our members and build genuine relationships with them.
- Help new and trial members feel comfortable when they first walk through the door.
- Assist with enquiries and memberships.
- Handle member check-ins and general reception administration.
- Use our membership and lead-management systems (we'll teach you these).
And because we're a small team, sometimes you'll simply help with whatever needs doing.
We don't have a "that's not my job" mentality. Whether it's helping a new member, tidying reception, answering an enquiry, taking some photos or jumping in to help when things get busy, we all pitch in and support each other.
Who We're Looking For
Personality is really important to us.
You need to be friendly, outgoing and comfortable starting conversations with people. We're looking for someone who builds rapport easily, puts people at ease and will genuinely enjoy becoming part of our gym community.
On the creative side, you need to have a good eye for photos and video, understand what makes engaging social media content and be comfortable actually creating it.
You should also be:
- Creative and full of ideas.
- Reliable and organised.
- Comfortable working independently.
- Someone who takes initiative rather than always waiting to be told what to do.
- Keen to keep learning and developing your creative skills.
- Professional and discreet, and understand the responsibility that comes with representing our gym and our members.
You don't need formal marketing or social media qualifications.
Maybe you've learned these skills through work, your own social media, helping another business or club, or simply because it's something you love doing. How you learned isn't particularly important to us. What you can actually do with those skills is.
Experience with Canva, CapCut or similar is important. Photography, videography and WordPress experience would also be an advantage.
Do You Need Martial Arts Experience?
No.
You don't need to have trained in Muay Thai, Boxing or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but you do need to have a genuine interest in martial arts and be willing to learn about what we do.
The more you understand our gym, our members and our culture, the better you'll be able to capture it.
You'll also need:
- A current Blue Card (Working with Children Check), or be able to obtain one before starting.
- A current driver's licence and reliable transport.
- The right to work in Australia.
Experience with Clubworx or GymSales isn't required—we'll teach you.
What We Offer
- Starting from $31 per hour, depending on skills and experience.
- Applicable penalty rates and superannuation.
- Permanent part-time employment.
- A friendly, supportive team where everyone helps each other.
- Plenty of opportunity to bring your own creative ideas to our social media.
- The opportunity to become part of a long-established Brisbane martial arts community.
How to Apply
Please don't just send us a resume.
We'd like to know a little about the person applying as well.
Please send us your resume, a short cover letter telling us about yourself and why you think you'd suit the role, and some examples of content you've created if you have them.
They don't need to be examples from professional social media work. We're happy to see personal projects or anything else that gives us an idea of what you can do.
We'd also love you to answer two questions:
1. Have a look through The Ironfist Gym's social media. Which Post or Reel has been your favourite and why?
2. If you were creating content for Ironfist, what are two or three ideas you'd love to bring to life?
One final note on that second question. We're not looking for generic marketing ideas, tutorial videos or what social media "experts" say every business should be doing.
Our social media is about our people, our culture and our community. We're not interested in making instructional videos or trying to position ourselves as influencers or online experts. We'd much rather hear your ideas for authentically capturing what happens at Ironfist and what makes our community different.
We're not looking for a particular answer. We just want to get a feel for your creativity, whether you understand what we're about and how you think.
Pay: $31.00 – $35.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
