Your opportunity

As a valued member of Governance Services, you will work in a small, collaborative team, supporting senior Legal Office staff across a range of legal matters while also assisting with the administration of the University’s governance responsibilities, including privacy and information access.

You will make an impact by:

Supporting University Lawyers with legal research, deeds and agreements, locating relevant legislative provisions legal precedents and case law
Assessing incoming requests for legal advice and obtaining necessary background information
Act as the University’s nominated contact person in accordance with the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (NSW), and as the University’s nominated Privacy Officer in accordance with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW)
Acting as secretary to the Academic Board Appeals Committee and supporting governance committee activities

What you will bring

You're an organised and collaborative legal professional who enjoys solving problems, working across varied legal matters and delivering practical advice in a client-focused environment. Comfortable interpreting legislation and policy, you bring sound judgement, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities while working both independently and as part of a supportive team.

To succeed in this role, you will also need:

A tertiary qualification in law or paralegal studies (or working towards such qualification), or relevant legal, compliance or governance experience, or equivalent.
Experience researching legislation, interpreting policy and preparing legal documentation
Strong written communication skills with the ability to manage confidential and sensitive information

It’s not essential, but we’d love it if you had experience working with privacy legislation or within a university, government or other large, complex organisation environments.

Your opportunity is:

Full-time, fixed term (until July 2027)
Located at Lismore, NSW 2480.
HEW Level 6. The base salary ranges from $95,961 - $105,250 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $123,143.
