Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager

Downs Accounting – Rivervale, Perth WA
$135,000 – $185,000 + super, depending on experience

Downs Accounting is an established public accounting practice based in Rivervale. We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager to join our team.

This is a hands-on senior accounting role with a varied client base and some responsibility for supporting the day-to-day operation of the accounting team.

The position would suit an experienced public practice accountant looking to take the next step in their career, or an existing manager seeking a role with greater autonomy and variety.

The Role

You will work with a wide portfolio of clients and be involved in a broad range of accounting and taxation matters, including:

Preparation and review of financial statements and income tax returns
Companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals
Tax planning and general taxation advice
Business advisory and client support
Complex accounting and taxation matters - with strong in house assistance
BAS and other compliance requirements
Direct client contact and management of client relationships
Liaising with the ATO and other external parties
Assisting with corporate and multi-entity group accounting
Preparation of financial information and reconciliations
Liaising with external auditors
Other accounting and financial reporting work as required

The role also includes some management responsibilities, including:

Supporting other accountants with technical queries
Assisting with workflow and deadlines
Helping ensure jobs progress efficiently through the practice
Assisting with day-to-day client and staff matters
Working closely with the Principal in the operation of the accounting team

This is not a full-time management position. You will remain actively involved in accounting, taxation and client work but there is room for progression.

About You

We are looking for someone with:

Strong Australian public practice accounting experience
CA or CPA qualification
Strong Australian taxation and accounting knowledge
Experience preparing financial statements and tax returns for a range of business structures
The ability to work independently and manage your own client work
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Confidence dealing directly with clients
Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines
The ability to assist and support other members of the accounting team
A practical and commercial approach to client matters

Experience with larger corporate groups, consolidations, audit liaison or financial reporting would be highly regarded but is not essential.
