Primary objective
Calculate sentence periods for individual prisoners in accordance with the Sentencing Act. Update and maintain daily accurate and
effective information in relation to prisoner movements and discharges to ensure the effective management of prisoners.
Context statement
This section is optional. It can be used to include any information the agency may think important; for example, to explain specific or
unique features of the relevant duties and workplace, or the work of the agency, or to highlight the selection criteria or capabilities which
are particularly important in performing the role effectively.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Calculate all sentence periods for individual inmates in accordance with the Sentencing Act to ensure all offenders serve the periods

intended by the sentencing authorities and record in IOMS to allow the timely classification, accommodation placement and
development of the offender management plan.

2. Update and maintain daily accurate and effective information in relation to inmate movements, transfers and discharges to allow
correctional management to allocate resources for the effective management of inmates.

3. Update and maintain accurate statistics on inmate numbers on a daily basis for the provision of information to Correctional
Management.

4. Provide support for staff to ensure information is recorded and maintained in the Agency’s electronic documents and records
management systems and to ensure the repatriation of inmates is undertaken in a timely manner.

5. Maintain a corporate credit card in accordance with treasury and departmental guidelines for the management and coordination of
intrastate and interstate offender transfers.

6. Liaise with NTDCS staff and Courts administration in relation to warrant details to ensure accurate recording of the information in
IOMS and other recording systems.

7. Manage all aspects pertaining to prisoner records; monitor control, creation and access, observing current registration protocols, and
provide advice on the application of contemporary records management including archiving and secondary storage.

8. Participate in professional development and attend meetings as NTDCS DCP Warrants Management representative.
9. Carry out duties as requested by the Chief Prison Officer Reception and Senior Warrants Clerk.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to interpret relevant legislation, policies and procedures relevant to the calculation of sentences.
2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of records management practices with an understanding of Records Management policies

and guidelines for the Northern Territory Government.
3. Knowledge of computer, electronic media, and software package applications including MS Office word processing, spreadsheets and

data bases.
4. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, experience in working effectively with, a wide range of people from diverse

backgrounds.
5. Demonstrated high level of both oral and written communication skills.
6. Demonstrated capacity to be proactive in identifying problems and practical solutions;
7. Ability to work autonomously, manage time effectively, prioritise work-loads and approach issues in an innovative way.
Desirable
1. Knowledge and understanding of custodial operations in the Northern Territory and the role of Offender Services within Darwin

Correctional Centre.
2. The ability to work full time hours Monday to Friday.

applicant from this position. Effective 1st July 2015 all Northern Territory Correctional Services employees may be subject to random
