HEAD CHEF

Eating House Rowville
Rowville, Melbourne VIC

Salary: $85,000 per year plus superannuation

About Eating House

Eating House is a well-established, independently owned restaurant that has been part of the Rowville community since 2004.

We are a busy premium-casual venue serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a diverse menu, strong local following and established kitchen team.

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Head Chef to lead our kitchen and take ownership of food quality, consistency, team performance and kitchen operations.

About the role

This is a leadership position for a chef who enjoys being actively involved in service while maintaining high operational standards.

You will work closely with the owners and General Manager to lead the kitchen team, maintain consistency across every service and support the continued development of our menu and food offering.

Key responsibilities

Lead and manage the kitchen team across breakfast, lunch and dinner services
Maintain consistent food quality, presentation and portion control
Organise kitchen operations, preparation and service flow
Train, coach and develop chefs and kitchen staff
Prepare kitchen rosters and manage labour efficiently
Monitor food costs, ordering, stock levels and wastage
Maintain accurate recipes, yields and portioning standards
Work with management on menu development, specials and seasonal changes
Ensure compliance with food-safety, hygiene and workplace-safety requirements
Maintain a clean, organised and professional kitchen
Build a positive culture based on teamwork, accountability and respect

About you

You will be a calm, organised and reliable kitchen leader with strong communication skills and a genuine commitment to quality.

To be successful, you should have:

Proven experience as a Head Chef, Senior Sous Chef or in a comparable kitchen leadership role
Strong à la carte service experience in a busy restaurant or café environment
Experience leading, training and motivating a kitchen team
Sound knowledge of food costing, stock control and labour management
Strong food-safety and kitchen-compliance knowledge
Excellent organisation and time-management skills
The ability to maintain consistency during high-volume services
Availability to work a full-time roster, including weekends
Relevant commercial cookery qualifications
