Be the organisational backbone of a busy surgical ward, supporting our clinical team while building valuable healthcare administration experience in a friendly, supportive environment.

Where you'll be working:
The Surgical Services unit at John Hunter Hospital plays a vital role in our healthcare system, including a range of administrative and support functions crucial for the efficient operation of Surgical Services. This position is based on our dynamic and busy General Surgical Ward J3, where you will be working alongside our team of nurses, doctors, allied Health Staff and administration. You will be working Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, job sharing with our other wonderful CSO.

The work environment is dynamic and fast-paced, reflecting the demands of a major hospital. You will encounter situations that require you to handle sensitive matters with empathy and professionalism.

This is a fast-paced, varied role where no two days are the same. Every day brings new challenges, unexpected tasks, and opportunities to learn, making it an ideal position for someone who enjoys variety and thrives in a dynamic environment. You'll be balancing competing priorities, so strong organisational and multitasking skills are essential.

You'll be supported by a friendly, knowledgeable team who are committed to helping you learn and develop. The role also offers broad exposure to many areas of healthcare administration and operations that people may not typically see, providing valuable experience and insight into the health sector.

The role is dynamic with a variety of tasks each day, including but not limited to:

Healthroster
Salary and Wages
WHS Reports
iProcurement
StaffLink (checking leave and staff contracts)
ChemAlert
My Health Learning (submitting in-services and pulling staff reports)
Safety walks
AFM
Filing
Single Digital Patient Record and relevant reports
Cleaning storerooms
Replacing staffing

Hours of work:
Applicants must be available to work Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

How you'll be supported:
The successful applicant will be well supported from day one. They will receive a comprehensive orientation to the ward from our Nurse Unit Manager, Lisa, followed by a structured two-week training program alongside one of our experienced Clinical Support Officers within Surgical Services. This hands-on training is designed to provide a smooth transition into the role and build confidence across all aspects of the position.

In addition to face-to-face mentoring, employees will complete relevant online learning and have ongoing access to support from a friendly, knowledgeable team who are always willing to answer questions and assist one another. There are also ongoing education and career development opportunities available, supporting continuous learning and professional growth within the organisation.
