About the Opportunity
Join the Emergency Department team at Cessnock District Hospital, a vibrant rural hub surrounded by vineyards, countryside and national parks. This 34-bed facility provides a diverse range of acute and subacute services, including a busy 24/7 Emergency Department, general medicine, surgical specialties, rehabilitation and onsite diagnostic services.
You'll be joining a cohesive multidisciplinary team committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care. With a major $138 million hospital redevelopment underway, including an expanded Emergency Department, modern inpatient wards and upgraded facilities, this is an exciting time to join Cessnock District Hospital and contribute to the growth and development of our services.
As the Clinical Nurse Educator, you'll play a key role in building the capability, confidence and clinical skills of our nursing workforce. You'll receive a supported orientation and work closely with experienced Nurse Managers, Educators and Clinical Nurse Specialists.
As the Clinical Nurse Educator, you will plan, deliver and evaluate clinical education programs that support safe, evidence-based practice and the ongoing professional development of nursing staff.
Your responsibilities will include:

Planning, delivering and evaluating clinical education programs aligned with legislative, professional and organisational requirements.

Mentoring and supporting nurses to achieve and maintain clinical competencies.

Supporting education and competency development in areas including:

Advanced Life Support (ALS)

Basic Life Support (BLS)
-
Transition to Practice Emergency Nursing

DETECT and DETECT Junior
-
ETEK
-
Facilitating bedside teaching and clinical learning using advanced nursing knowledge and communication skills.

Supporting the implementation of ANTs (Advanced Nursing Training) competencies.

Identifying education needs and developing targeted strategies to address clinical capability gaps.

Working collaboratively with Nurse Managers, Educators and Clinical Nurse Specialists to support staff across all levels of experience.

Contributing to local and district education meetings and initiatives.

Maintaining strong professional relationships across the multidisciplinary team.

Participating in research, quality improvement and service development initiatives.

Developing local strategies to implement district-wide education initiatives.

Maintaining accurate education records, competency documentation and relevant data.

Providing direct clinical care when required to support teaching, clinical learning or emergency situations.
The position reports to the Hospital Service Manager (HSM) and is supported by the Nurse Unit Managers and broader clinical leadership team.

Essential Criteria
Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.

Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE), or willingness to work towards this qualification.
You will bring:
Demonstrated recent experience within an Emergency Department.
Demonstrated clinical education and/or leadership experience.
Strong clinical knowledge and sound clinical judgement.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills.
The ability to identify learning needs and develop practical education strategies.
A collaborative approach and the ability to build effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
