About the Role
We are seeking an accomplished and collaborative educator to join the School of Medicine and Public Health as a Lecturer in Clinical Education. In this role, you will contribute across the core domains of academic practice: Teaching and Learning, Research and Innovation, and Service and Engagement, supporting the University's Looking Ahead 2030 vision.
As a key member of the Joint Medical Program (JMP) teaching team, you will play an important role in the delivery and ongoing development of Phase 1 (Years 1 and 2) of the medical curriculum. You will work closely with academic colleagues, problem-based learning (PBL) facilitators, clinical skills tutors, professional staff, and external partners to deliver a high-quality student experience and foster strong learning outcomes across multiple teaching sites.
The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to curriculum development, educational innovation, and scholarly activity within a highly regarded medical program. You will also collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues across the JMP network, including the Central Coast Clinical School and the University of New England, to support a connected and contemporary approach to medical education.
About you
You are an enthusiastic clinical educator with a passion for medical education, a commitment to evidence-informed teaching, and a desire to contribute to an inclusive and collaborative academic community.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Completed/enrolled/willingness to enrol in a doctoral or masters qualification or equivalent accreditation in a health profession.

Demonstrated leadership in clinical education teaching and learning activities, including responsibility for the preparation and delivery of course modules and having a central role in curriculum design/development, where appropriate.

A commitment to health research and/or scholarship of teaching & learning, and a demonstrated record of publication or non-traditional research output in high-quality outlets.

Skills in active supervision of student/trainee research projects and/or clinical placements.

Ability to efficiently perform in allocated internal roles, sharing academic service responsibilities, contributing to outcomes of internal committees, and developing external collaborations.

Demonstrated understanding of Australian healthcare structures, policies, and challenges, including primary care, hospital systems, and considerations for rural and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.

The School of Medicine and Public Health is one of the largest Schools within the College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing. Its educational strengths include the Bachelor of Medical Science & Doctor of Medicine Joint Medical Program (JMP) and postgraduate programs in traumatology and public health. The School works closely with the Hunter New England and Central Coast Local Health Districts to deliver and promote interprofessional learning and collaborative health research.
The 5-year Joint Medical Program is a unique partnership between the University of Newcastle, the University of New England and the Hunter New England and Central Coast Local Health Districts. The program provides an integrated problem-based learning curriculum with early and broad clinical experience alongside opportunities for research and longitudinal electives. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the program through teaching, participating in program leadership roles and undertaking innovative programs in medical education.
