The University of Newcastle is seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Clinical Exercise Physiology to contribute to the delivery and development of the Master of Exercise Physiology program. Fully accredited by Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA), the program prepares graduates to prevent, treat and manage chronic health conditions and injuries through evidence-based exercise interventions.
You will deliver engaging postgraduate teaching, contribute to curriculum development aligned with ESSA standards and evolving clinical industry needs, and support innovation in learning and assessment. The role also includes developing an independent research profile, attracting external funding, building industry partnerships, and contributing to the academic life of the School and College.
Depending on appointment level, you may also undertake program coordination and broader leadership responsibilities.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Completion of a doctoral qualification in Clinical Exercise Physiology or cognate discipline. Accreditation (or demonstrated eligibility) as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with Exercise and Sport Science Australia.

Demonstrated record of publication in high-quality outlets including evidence of international and national research collaborations and/or partnerships.

Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality teaching as indicated by internal and external surveys and outcomes for students that will improve or innovate in response to feedback.

Demonstrated ability to contribute to curriculum development at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels, taking responsibility for the preparation and delivery of course modules and coordinating one or more courses, including collaboration in curriculum design and delivery where appropriate.

Ability to efficiently perform in allocated internal roles, sharing academic service responsibilities, contributing to outcomes of internal committees, and developing external collaborations.
For appointment at Level C (Senior Lecturer), you will demonstrate an established record of leadership and achievement across teaching, research and engagement, including curriculum leadership, program convening or coordination, success in securing research funding, strong industry partnerships, and the capacity to provide strategic leadership within the program and discipline.

The School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy (SBSP) is one of four schools within the College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing. It is one of the university’s most research-intensive schools, with multiple research themes aimed at addressing local and global health challenges. The school offers a range of programs in addition to providing courses in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and pharmacology for all health profession degrees offered by the university.
This is an exciting time for the Discipline of Exercise and Sport Science (EXSS), following its relocation to Callaghan and the expansion of a strong sport and exercise ecosystem. EXSS works from new, purpose-built exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor learning, and performance and data analysis laboratories, co-located with the Forum’s sport, fitness and recreation facilities, and also teaches from the nearby Hunter Sports Centre, home to the student-led exercise physiology clinic and athlete testing centre. The discipline is also a key part of the University’s Global Sport and Movement Collaborative – a strategic initiative bringing together multidisciplinary expertise across sport, movement, health, wellbeing, performance and technology.
