Full Job Description

Tasmandu, proudly operated by Singh Foundation, is looking for a qualified and experienced Chef to join our team on a full-time basis at our Newstead restaurant in Launceston.

Salary: $80,000 – $90,000 per annum + Superannuation (depending on qualifications and experience)

About Us

Tasmandu is one of Launceston's leading Nepalese restaurants, proudly operated by Singh Foundation. We are passionate about delivering authentic Nepalese cuisine, exceptional customer service, and creating memorable dining experiences.

Due to continued growth, we are seeking a qualified and experienced Chef to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional looking for long-term career stability within a growing hospitality group.

About the Role

As our Chef, you will play a key role in delivering consistently high-quality meals while maintaining exceptional food safety and kitchen standards. You will work closely with the management team to support daily kitchen operations and contribute to menu development.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and cook authentic Nepalese dishes to a consistently high standard.
Assist with menu planning and the development of new dishes and seasonal specials.
Ensure consistency in food quality, presentation, and portion control.
Oversee daily food preparation and cooking operations.
Maintain high standards of food hygiene, safety, and cleanliness.
Monitor stock levels, food storage, stock rotation, and inventory control.
Assist with ordering food supplies and managing kitchen inventory.
Minimise food wastage through effective stock management.
Supervise, mentor, and support junior kitchen staff when required.
Work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen while maintaining attention to detail.
Ensure compliance with all food safety regulations and workplace health and safety requirements.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent qualification).
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience as a Chef or Cook in a commercial kitchen.
Strong knowledge of Nepalese cuisine and traditional cooking techniques.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
The ability to work both independently and within a team.
A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Sound understanding of food safety and kitchen hygiene practices.
Excellent communication skills.
