No two days are the same in the business section of The West Australian and The Nightly. As a reporter you’ll support the Digital Editor and National News Director (Business) guide business and finance content direction for both websites and help to promote content via external channels.
To thrive in this role you must have excellent writing and communication skills, sound news judgment and a keen attention to detail, combined with a strong sense of urgency, an ability to multi-task, an interest in (or desire to learn quickly) the business and finance sectors, as well as a thorough grasp of online content.
Key responsibilities:
Source, write, and publish original business and/or finance stories for the website.
Write and edit content, including headlines, captions, and embedded media.
Edit content to ensure maximum potential through use of images and infographics.
Write and edit newsletters, newsletter content and stories
Utilise social media for story discovery, promotion and research.
Create social media assets to promote business and finance content
Use initiative to identify emerging business and financial trends to create digital content
Apply news judgment and use analytical tools to maximise story visibility.
Conduct professional and thorough interviews.
Maintain awareness of legal and ethical issues in reporting.
Represent the company professionally and courteously in all interactions.
Continuously upskill and stay updated with technology and digital trends.
Work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
What you bring:
A journalism degree and/or experience working within the media industry OR a financial background with an interest in media/storytelling
A strong work ethic and a healthy level of initiative
An interest in, or desire to learn about, finance and business
A high level of literacy and attention to detail
Good interview and communication skills
The ability to work autonomously under high pressure.
Flexibility in a seven-day newsroom, including occasional weekends, and the ability to work later in the day.
