FIFO Survey Assistant – Cooper Basin

We are looking for a FIFO Survey Assistant to join our established Cooper Basin Survey team.
We are particularly interested in hearing from someone who is currently studying surveying, looking to commence surveying studies, or looking for an opportunity to enter the industry and gain practical experience while studying.
Operating on a 15 days on / 13 days off FIFO roster, you will fly directly from Brisbane to Moomba, South Australia, and work alongside experienced surveyors across Fyfe's Cooper Basin operations.
The Cooper Basin provides a unique environment to learn surveying. You will gain significant practical field experience, exposure to modern survey equipment and technology, and the opportunity to develop your skills while completing your studies.
This role will see you:
- Work alongside experienced Surveyors and assist with day-to-day field surveying activities.
- Gain practical experience across a variety of energy and resources projects within the Cooper Basin.
- Assist with the setup, operation and care of modern surveying equipment.
- Develop practical surveying skills to complement your formal studies and support your progression into a Surveyor role.
- Assist with the preparation, maintenance and general upkeep of survey vehicles, equipment and consumables.
- Travel between sites, fields and development areas throughout the Cooper Basin.
- Work as part of an experienced FIFO survey team in a remote operating environment.
- Develop an understanding of field procedures, safety requirements, data collection and professional surveying practices.
- Gain exposure to additional survey technologies and disciplines as your skills and experience develop.
Skills & Experience
This is an entry-level position, so previous surveying experience is not essential.
We are primarily looking for someone with the right attitude, work ethic and genuine interest in developing a career in surveying.
The successful applicant will ideally:
- Be currently studying surveying, looking to commence surveying studies, or looking for an opportunity to enter the surveying industry while undertaking further study.
- Be willing to learn and take direction from experienced Surveyors.
- Be comfortable working a 15 days on / 13 days off FIFO roster.
- Be comfortable working in a remote environment and being away from home for the duration of each swing.
- Be physically capable of undertaking outdoor fieldwork in varying conditions.
- Be prepared to work in hot conditions, particularly during the summer months.
- Be comfortable with significant driving between work locations.
- Have a practical, hands-on approach and be willing to assist with the upkeep of vehicles, equipment and consumables.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety.
- Be reliable, organised and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Hold a current manual Australian driver's licence & White Card
